by HELEN See the Blue Grotto on the way to Capri. You have a few of choices.... You can take a ferry to Capri and then take a boat to the Blue Grotto from there. Another option is to take an excursion. The boat will stop at the Blue Grotto as well as some other interesting places along the island of Capri. You'll have about 4 to 5 hours on the island to do whatever you please. Then the boat will take you back to Positano. I would recommend to take the organized excursion rather than the ferry... The Isle of Capri. by K.Knight Getting to the aisle of Capri is not difficult. Situated right on the Positano beach, tour offices offer day trips to the Isle of Capri that MUST BE BOOKED THE DAY BEFORE DEPARTURE. Although this is a relative easy task, at a cost of approx 85 euro (the Blue Grotto is an additional cost of 12 Euro) it does not help you plan your trip to suit the weather! you can book your tour in perfect sunshine and turn up the next day in driving rain! The boat leaves from the Positano beach at 9am and takes you on a narrated trip around the Isle of Capri before setting you ashore for a free day of activity. You are picked up at 4pm for the return trip. Leave a Comment

The beautiful balconies of positano. by K.Knight The walk from top of Positano to the bottom is quite a pleasent experience. The main road is lined with all kinds of restaurants, stalls, hotels and pottery shops and the view changes with every turn in the road. There are quite a number of beautiful balconies at the front of some homes and eventually you will end up in the narrow laneways that eventually spill onto the pebble beach that is Positano. You can also take the bus back to the top! Leave a Comment

Amalfi. by K.Knight Mountains standing proud above rocky cliffs and an azure sea. Lemon trees bursting with vivid scent and color. Patchwork patterns of ancient olive groves and vineyards clinging to the hillside. Is there a better way to define the elegant Italian paradise of the Amalfi Coast? The town is situated amoung the soft green hills and valleys, opposite the azure sea and under a beautiful blue sky. In this village the air is heavy with the scent of roses and carnations. As you walk along the narrow, paved streets, the pink flowers of the oleanders hang over crumbling stone walls - and the effect is one of mellow beauty. by stappm I have found it , i have found it! Walking down into positano on the last little strip of shops before getting to the sea front. Safari Shoes. This little shop hand makes sandals for you, in about an hour. The selection he has is wonderful with lots of rhinestones and jewels. Think Jimmy Choo just for you! Plus he has shoes that will fit even the most difficult (mine) sizes to find...... custom to your feet! Leave a Comment

Limoncello in a local store by Erin74 When you're on the Amalfi Coast, you'll notice that lemons seem to be a prevailing theme in restaurants and shops. Lemon flavored and scented items are very popular here, and none more so than Limoncello, a lemon-based liqueur. There are various accounts of where exactly Limoncello was first concocted (some say Capri, others Sorrento....) but it is very popular all over the region. Limoncello is made by soaking the zest of lemons in whole grain alcohol for several days. It is added to a syrup made of sugar and water. The result is a thick liqueur that tastes strongly of lemons. Italians drink it after meals as a "digestive." I didn't actually care for Limoncello much, but you really have to try it at least once. If you become a fan (as several of my friends did) you can buy bottles of it to take home. They make a great souvenir or gift. Leave a Comment

Positano from the beach. by K.Knight The view of positano from the beach is unique and offers a perspective of just haw precarious some of these buildings are as they cling to the side of the mountain, taking up every square inch of land. I was very surprised at how easy the walk to the top of the hill was on the main road that traverses from side to side. Leave a Comment

Walkway to the beach in Positano by Erin74 Positano is a small town, but there is a central area near the beach where a large number of shops and cafes are located. This is a great place to spend time wandering and window shopping. Take the bus or simply walk toward the beach and you'll find a large walkway leading toward the water. Along this walkway you'll find lots of shops and artists selling watercolors of Positano. There are also a number of restaurants and little places to grab a cannoli. In the summer, bouganvilla blooms over the walkway, creating a very vibrant passageway. Leave a Comment

Anne selecting items for lunch. by K.Knight The charm and relaxed atmosphere of the entire Amalfi coast from Sorrento and Positano to the township of Amalfi was captured by the numerous fresh produce stalls that line the narrow cliff hugging roads. We stopped at a few of these stalls and purchased refreshing frozen lemon drinks along with fresh fruit including the magnificent Italian grapes. BE WARNED THOUGH.......The owners of these stalls become VERY angry and sometimes ABUSIVE if you simply stop and take a photograph BEFORE purchasing from them! Even though Anne is pictured here selecting items for lunch the owner became very animated while I was attempting a photograph. Leave a Comment

If you like hiking, the area around Positano is a great way to do it. While getting around the town itself offers enough hiking, you can go all the way up to the "Path of the Gods" and see some breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast. It is the best way to get out of the tourist areas and in some real Italian neighborhoods. I suggest getting the Sunflower Guide by Julian Tippett to guide you through some hiking. But one word of advice...while it's the best hiking guide we've found, we had to use some common sense in some of the Positano hikes because some stairs were not there anymore or we missed some turn-off and ended up on a longer hike than planned. Don't be surprised if the trail goes through someone's property--that is the trail! I also suggest printing maps from giovis.com. It has the best detailed map we found. Directions: Amalfi Coast
