  • Taverna Azzurra: Best Fresh fried squid ever!!!

by nadiapalomb Written May 27, 2011 1 reviews

Taverna Azzurra is situated on the Marina Grande, it is a fishing village you can get there by foot about 15 mins walk from Piazza Tasso. The setting is just beautiful, meters from the sea shore the restaurants tables are situated. We ate fried squid with a lovely tomato, onion & basil salad. The squid was so fresh, we went back the following day again. But unfortunately we found Taverna Azzurra on the last 3 days of our holiday so I do recommend any1in Sorrento to go down to the beach early in their holiday. You will soak up the real authentic italian way because all the local eat out here, after they close the shops in the town. The Taverna Azzurra is very popular and you will know why after eating here!!Ask for Luciano he is the son's owner, lovely chap, his brother Gennnaro is also at the tables serving but can be a little moody, but you can draw him out and he will be helpful if you catch him not too busy.

Favorite Dish: Grilled fresh catch of the Day! What we also had happend to be Snapper it is a lovely white fish a few bones here and there but it is also enjoyable defilleting it yourself.

The Ristorante Taverna Azzurra is located just at the shores of the Marina Grande. Actually, my companions & I happened to bump into this restaurant because we were staying in the Marina Grande area.

Gladly we were not disappointed with the food in this restaurant. The owner & son mans the restaurant and both are jolly & greet you with open arms. The seafood is fresh and well prepared so we were always getting a great meal albeit more expensive than average. Photos of Italian celebrities line the walls of the restaurant but the owners are down to earth

There are the usual pasta dishes, seafood menu and steaks. I recommend the seafood e.g seafood platter, scampi, shrimps, fish & calamari

We ate here like 3 times during our trip, and spent our new years here too

Favorite Dish: The seafood spaghetti is probably the best I've ever tried. Other favorites include the fried calamari and fresh bruchetta

During our stay in Sorrento, we ate most of our dinners at Taverna Azzurra because it was near our hotel and the seafood pasta was fantastic. The owners of the restaurant, father and son, are very friendly and welcoming.

Favorite Dish: This restaurant serves excellent seafood pasta. They have many other delicious dishes too. The antipasti includes bruschetta (tomatoes on toast), saute caldo ai frutti di mare (hot sauted mixed seafood), grilled vegetables, fried calamari, etc.

The Primi Piatti (first course) includes Spaghetti alle vongole veraci (spaghetti with clams), Linguine alla Scampi (linguine with scampi), Spaghetti Frutti di Mare (seafood pasta), and many more. The Secondi Piatti (second course) includes Frittura mista (mixed fried seafood), Grilled fish, Grilled meats, Risotto, Ravioli, etc.
