Piazza Nettuno, Bologna
Piazza del Nettuno is situated right next to Piazza Maggiore and it is the most vivid square in the city always crowded with locals and tourists. It is probably the best known meeting point in Bologna and resting post for visitors after long strollings around.
The square is completely open in direction of Piazza Maggiore and opposite of it to Via dell'Indipendenza, while the other two sides are closed by Palazzo Re Enzo and Palazzo della Borsa.
Fondest memory: The fountain was built by a great Flemish sculptor, Jean Boulogne De Donai called "il Giambologna", mainly to plans originally drawn up by architrct Laureati. It represents Neptune cooling down water, people from Bologna usually refer to fountain as "il gigante".
I loved this provocative fountain!
Fondest memory: I have many wonderful memories of Bologna...despite the fact that my trip was only 24 hrs! Life is all in the moments...many things can be achieved in the shortest of time!
Favorite thing: Here you can see the fountain of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno) executed by Giambologna in 1564.
Favorite thing: Visit Maggiore square and the close Nettuno fountain, give a look at the mermaids around Nettuno....
Favorite thing: Nearby the Piazza Maggiore you'll find the Piazza del Nettuno, and in the middle of this you'll see the Fontana del Nettuno, you can see it in the photo.
