We managed to get a small table out the front on the street, though it happened to be the very last table in a long line, and the busy waiters chose to ignore us for ages. In the end Alex went inside to try and order and they just told him they would be out to us soon.
So, finally we ordered some drinks, and after a thirsty wait they arrived, along with some little complimentary snacks. We enjoyed our drinks and some people watching and then waited in vain for a waiter to come near us so we could pay for our drinks....eventually we gave up hope of ever seeing a waiter again, and we did a very naughty thing....we just walked away. No one noticed.

Cantina Bentivoglio is an atmospheric wine bar and restaurant set over two floors in Bologna's university quarter. It is also one of the best places in the city to listen to jazz, with shows held most nights.
Bentivoglio's walls are lined with wine bottles, giving you a taste of the 400+ different labels on offer from its cellars. This is a great place to sample some Italian wines, though they do stock wines from all over the world in case your preference is for a new world wine for example.
The menu has a decent selection of snacks and meals and the prices are comparatively cheap. Bookings are recommended, especially on the weekends. That said, we did manage to get a table on a Sunday evening without a reservation.
As we had had a big lunch that day, we only needed something light for dinner. Anyway, the main reason we went to Bentivoglio was to sample some wines ; ) We ordered a couple of different half bottles of Italian red wine and enjoyed our selection.
To eat, we just shared a couple of serves of Crostini - a flat bread with savoury toppings. We had the Crostini al Prosciutto, with parma ham, and the Crostini Romagnolo, which had soft cheese and rocket.
I loved the atmosphere at Bentivoglio and would definitely return again and hopefully check out some jazz next time too.

I don't like to much this music, but it's spectacular to spend a differnt saturday night in this rave...u can follow the truck or only stay in a corner to do 'waching people'...it's amazing all the kind of persons u can find!

Always located in the city centre, the Byblos used to be one of my favourite places in the centre. Unfortunately it went through the same wave of changes that is investing most of my (ex) favourite night spots in Bologna. They are pleasant cozy places, the close, and when they re-open they become incredibly posh bars, all furnished in white (they all look the same) and the lost the magic they had. Just a suggestion: there are many cocktails but I reccommend to choose the Grasshopher, made with cacao, milk and minth cream!
This is the first fashion-chic bar in Bologna. If you go there in the afternnon you don't need any special dress requirements but if you decide to stay there at night I recommend to be quite elegant. The Kasamatta is a disco-pub in the very centre of the city. It used to be very nice, then they changed the name and renewed it. Now it's extremely posh, and don't go there if you are not wearing the trendiest dresses, because you would feel out of place. It's only a disco-pub in the centre and the owners treat it as if it was the biggest club in the city!!! I don't like it. But it's up to you...! AND...there are 3 rooms: You cannot go upstairs, because "there's the buffet", you cannot go downstairs, because at midnight they are still having dinner and the music is "falling-asleep style", and in the room at the ground floor you cannot seat three at a table for two, because people cannot pass through......TO sum up: you cannot go anywhere and you cannot do anything, except taking a drink (at least they are good). ANd the real music doesn't start before 1 a.m.
The entrance is 8 and to leave your jacket in the cloakroom is 3. (robbery!)

I adore such a small terraces in front of the cafe-bars, like this one in via Drapperie. Nothing can be replaced with enjoyable moments like sitting here after good dinner and sipping glass of cold wine. Damped sound of music from the back side, hopfully rock n' roll, and the crowd in front walking or strolling, who cares where to, is all what you need.
