It's a street market full of fresh produce, cheeses, and meats.
What to buy: Try one of those sweet juicy blood oranges. Stop in at a small cafe, Bar Aldrovandi, and they will make you fresh orange juice from the blood oranges.

I just caugh Bologna's market one of this Saturdays. It's huge!
There you can find almost anything, for all kinds of tastes.
I'm not sure how regular is the market, I'll find out and let you know. You can usually find nice cloths in Italian markets. Be sure you'll also find a lot of crap!
The attentive to the prices, not everything is cheaper there.
What to buy: Almost anything!

Well well well, if shops are making discount of 70 percent, think what add they add to the real price for being able to sell later things with 70 percent discounts. or... you want to say any shops would work without any profit? Just for thinking.. matchematics like this real price + 200 percent - 70 percent discount and you still do your business.. I'm talking about shops in the center. well, just my thoughts.

Yes, Bologna abounds with designer shops and exclusive boutiques (even the linen shops are fun to wander into). But the real treat is browsing the food shops including sweets and pastries, cheese, and prepared foods. The displays are beautiful and the food inviting!
What to buy: Wine, boxed breadsticks, balsamic vinegar, olive oil are among the things you can actually take home with you.
What to pay: No real bargains but worth every penny!

Via dell'Indipendenza has loads of women's clothes shops running down both of its sides. Whilst I was walking down this street I noticed that the clothes were fairly cheap.
