Southwest to the Piazza di Porta Santo Stefano, you will find a large park, the Queen Margherita gardens. The were created by Alfonso Brizi in the 19th century. Although this park is close to the city center, you will get the impression of a peaceful place. Looking southwards up the hills, you will even think that you are not in a city.
The park offers the typical things you will see in any city park (at least in most european city parks): Trees, paths, a lawn where people can relax or play football. This park has also a lake with a small island (connected by bridges). On that island you will fidn a pavillon where you can drink coffee, buy softdrinks etc.
Bologna's biggest garden with fifty-five hectars.
It was dedicated in 1875 to Margheritta, the queen of Italy. During excavations for the realization of the gardens, an Etruscan necropolis was found.
