If you want to visit the Galleria Ferrari by public transport, you can take a train to Modena, then walk to the central bus station (about 10 minutes) and take a bus to Maranello. Tickets cost €2.18 each way. Don't bother going to the tourist office. They don't know much and aren't really helpful in any way.
Once in Maranello, it's best to walk the 10 minutes into town centre to catch the bus back as there are no bus times in the bus stop outside the Ferrari factory.

Maranello is located only 17km from Maranello and 49km from Bologna, so it is an easy day/half day trip from either place. We stayed in Modena and headed to Maranello first thing by car. The drive there is fairly easy, and is well signposted.
If you don't have a car you can catch a bus from Modena. In Modena it departs from the bus station on Via Bacchini (near the train station). Buses depart hourly throughout the day. You can get details of the timetable from the Modena tourist office.
If you do drive to Maranello then you will need to find somewhere to park. We arrived early and were surprised to find that the Galleria Ferrari car park was completely full, as were the surrounding streets and car park....wow, we were worried that the Galleria was going to be packed to the gills!! It wasn't....can only assume that workers in the area were using the car park for all day parking....
Anyway, we ended up finding a place in a small residential street about 5 minutes walk from the Galleria - our parking was free and there was no time limit.
