    The building of the City Theatre, recently restored, was designed by Francesco Vandelli and officially opened in 1841.
    The portal on the front facade, in meo-classical style, is surmounted by a balcony while a series of panels representing plays written by Modenese authors.

    The statue to poet Alessandro Tassoni stands on the little piazzeta, right beneath the Ghirlandina. Tassoni is known for his famous mock-heroic poem "La secchia Rapita" (The stolen Pail), inspired by the Pail, which original being held in the Town Hall.

    University of Modena is an massive three-storied building situated in Via Canal Grande. The building was designed by the architect Andrea Tarabusi in 1774 according to the wishes of Francesco III d'Este.
    The Athenaeum of Modena was established in 1175 when Pilio da Medicina was asked to run courses in jurisprudence.

    The Storchi Theatre is situated in a widening called Largo Giuseppe Garibaldi, on the outskirt of the old core of the town. The theatre mainly performing non-opera shows, looks onto widening Garibaldi.
