The Teatro Regio (Regio theatre) is a theatre that was founded in 1821 and inaugurated in 1828 and which is still in operation today. It was built because the well-known Farnese theatre posed some acoustic problems and was therefore unsuitable for musical performances.
The theatre today hosts performances such as concerts, operas and dance. Big names have been on stage in this theatre… people like Maria Callas, Mario del Monaco, Carla Fracci and Rudolf Nureyev.
A tip: don’t miss the verdi festival if you happen to be in town in October.
