Mercatino

This is the cheapest place to find clothing actually because the rest of the shops in down town Ravenna are ridiculously expensive.

What to buy: Clothing, accesories, shoes.

What to pay: It depends on what are you getting. I bought for example some nice Summer trousers for 4 Euros....WOWOWOWOWOW!!! :o)

you can find a lot of things in the street- markets and that's a very fun activity to do. These markets are in localities around Ravenna on special days (Marina Romea - Friday, Marina di Ravenna - Saturday o Thursday, take a look at the information or ask locals for exact times). At those places they close the main streets and make a market for a whole evening, you can find anything you want from indian and african things, to triffles, accesories, bags, clothes, CD's, books and other interesting things, most of all it's fun. In summer a good thing is you can find many good deals on seasonal summer shoes there (strarting from 8-10 euros). In Marina di Ravenna in summer there's also a market on antiquariat things. In Milano Marittima apart the normal market you can also find a street of artists sailing their paintings and having quite nice expositions. In the day time on the beach there are indians and africans selling their things too, be sure to know the aprox. prices in advance and Bargain, bargain, bragain!

In Ravenna normal "daily" markets (fruits and clothes) happen on Thursday and Saturday mornings, don't oversleep (I always do, well usually).

Located in a neighbourhood of Ravenna known for its markets since the 5th century AD, il Mercato Coperto is its modern descendant. The construction of a covered market at this site was first completed in 1869, but when enlargement was necessary a few decades later, the market was rebuilt from scratch. The existing structure is from this latest construction, which was completed in 1922. To this day, the freshest of produce, flowers, fish, meats and other home-related products, from the region and elsewhere, are sold to locals and visitors.

“Ravenna is a miserable place: the people are barbarous and wild, and their language the most infernal paloii that you can imagine. He would be in every respect better among the Tuscans.”
— from a letter, about Lord Byron, written by Percy Bysshe Shelley, dated 15.August.1821

Least you think that mosaics are only on the walls of ancient churches and baptisteries, think again.

Annafietta.it offers up-to-date designs for picture frames, mirrors, boxes of all sizes and many decorative items.

It gladdened me to see this ancient, hand wrought art form carried on in today’s cookie-cutter world.

What to buy: We bought two abstract forms, decorated with different colored glass mosaics, to use as Christmas tree ornaments.

Mostly food and local necessities.
Good for a browse around if you've got the time. You might find yourself something interesting to eat!
