Live Music, Organic Pizza, Horses and Llamas!!

by NanetteH Written Nov 8, 2013

Agriturismo al Ranch has a Western saloon, organic pizza, live music on the weekends, horseback riding lessons for children and more! Check out their facebook page for more info and schedule. Most fun I have had in my time here in Aviano! Owners speak English, very friendly atmosphere. I have seen Blues Bands, Italian folkloric music and dance and participated in jam sessions here.

    USO Rome

by BellaMora Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Now if you just happen to be in my most favorite city in the entire world and you are military affiliated, you HAVE to stop by the USO and take a trip. You can check your email, get some water or cafe, and just plain relax and rest from all of that walking you'll do.

They had an outstanding tour of the Vatican and the Roman Forum and Coliseum and I had the BEST tour and time EVER and made life long friends there!!!!! They can even make hotel arrangements for you. I stayed in the very elegant Hotel Nardizzi. The room was like a Roman palace.

Also ask them for the listing of daily markets.

    Hand made Ceramics

by BellaMora Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Nove is in the Vicenza area. There are so many ceramic shops in this area. You can find the Lenox factory here and get deals you'll never see in Macy's. I got the Butler's Pantry print complete set of 16 for $32!!! I almost passed out when I went to Macy's to replace a coffee cup and saw they wanted $32 for the coffee cup. If I'd have known then what I know now... Of course that was back in 2002. Im sure the prices are still unbelievable today too.

There's so many beautiful art deco type structures you can purchase. Alot of the hand blown glass thats done in Murano you can find here for excellent prices, Capodiamonte porcelain factory for the flowers and porcelain dolls are here. I'd buy it from here instead of in Venice because the markup in Venice is unbelievable.
Keep in mind the stuff is heavy and you'll have to get it on the plane with you.

The ITT office has some outstanding trips. They do the driving, you get a great English speaking guide and they really are worth what you pay for them. I went to Paris for New Years and Florence (Firenze) It was well worth the trip.

    Restaurants & Winery

by BellaMora Updated Jul 30, 2007

There are so many places to eat right along Via Pordenone--Tussi, Aviano Inn, Mario, the Spagetti House, the Mensa in Area 2 (if you can get on the base). There's two places right outside of the Roveredo gate of the flightline. One has GREAT barbeque (cant remember the name-La Forcate I think) and the other is the first restaurant you come to right before you head to the barbeque place (Da Buffo I think). They are all enroute to my favorite winery Luciano Bessich. And the barbeque spot is on the left side right at the light when you pass this winery on Via Tornielli. This was the best winery I had been to. They had the cheapest Picolit in the area, the best Verduzzo, Moscato that could just put you in the mood, and a strawberry wine (fragolino) to die for. Not to mention their prices were unbelievable.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check this one out.

    Sacile at Night

by BellaMora Updated May 12, 2007

If you are looking for a sultry evening with a romantic, classy setting, then you've got to have dinner at any of the spots in the center of Sacile. There's a beautiful river or pond in the background, beautiful lighting, relaxed atomosphere and great food. I highly recommend this town too. There used to be a nice lounge that started with a "M" that I went to every now and then and they had an older crowd, nice jazz style ambiance, live music, several rooms with music options from old rock and roll, to jazz, to euro pop, and even a salsa demonstration. Just ask around. Im thinking it was called Maestro. It was a nice "sit back, chill, and have some wine for the evening" kind of spot if you can find it.

    European Reggae Festival (Sunsplash)

by BellaMora Written Apr 28, 2007

One of the best parties Ive ever been to was this 9 dayreggae festival held every year around June or July in Osoppo, Italy outside of Udine at Rivellino Park. Good food, great music, lots of things to buy, ganja everywhere if you're into that, and just great fun!!!!!!!!!!!

You can buy your ticket at the festival with no problems when you get there. You can camp out there if you'd like. They have several options as to the type of ticket you buy. General one day admission is 22 euro and well worth it. You can bring blankets and chairs of your own. (at least you used to be able to)

    Depends on your goal

by BellaMora Written Apr 25, 2007

Aviano is not your tourist area. It is little America. So most people coming here are military affiliated in some way. There's not much to do here at all after you've been to the azienda agricolas (wineries) and drank yourself into a stuper. It is a great spot to be located out of if you are traveling through Italy. Hotels are cheaper priced here and you can get to anywhere from here. Austria and Slovenia are 1.5hrs away, Croatia is about 2 hrs driving, you can be in France in 4hours by train, Switzerland is just on the other side of Milan, and Germany is just a hop, skip, and a jump. This is a great location if you want to be closer to the other countries.

Check out Ryanair.com or go-fly.com. These were the airlines I used to use because Im not a driver.

    Caves

This is a beautiful place to visit. It is amazing how these caves form, and to imagine how long it took! This is one of the few things there are to see near Aviano. They're only a short drive away. Check out the website for tons of pictures.
