Regardless of what they say, you need a vehicle. Even getting around the local area. Rental car is where you wanna go. They accommodate EVERY budget and purpose. From $15 a day up. If you want to stay local, get a local type vehicle. If you want to get to Venezia, Padova, Vicenza, Trieste, Bibione, Lignano-beaches, rent a better quality car.
If you need bus tours, metro tickets, euro star tickets, the Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Prada outlets, etc, call Viaggi Unlimited. They cater to Americans and speak English. You can send them an email too. They are great!!! http://www.viaggiunlimited.com/
Getting to Aviano from Marco Polo and back can be expensive. There is a public bus you can take. I believe the Viaggi Agents can arrange tickets for you. If not, get them from the Pordenone Train station kiosk.
Here's the site for the train station so you can plan ahead. http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html
Because I loved Italy so much, I want you to have a good time too.
Easy Jet is our choice of travel. Tickets can be cheaper than train tickets, and are about the same price as Ryan Air, depending on where you're going. The advantage of flying with Easy Jet is that you fly out of Venice Marco Polo Airport (Ryan Air flies out of a smaller trashy airport). You can get tickets from the base on a bus that takes you directly to the airport. From Venice, you can go to Bristol, 2 airports in London, and Nottingham East Midlands.
If you book online, you can save a few dollars verses calling to book a flight.
Often we have booked a flight to London with Easy Jet then bought a connecting flight through Ryan Air because Easy Jet might not fly to where we want to end up.
If you are traveling around Europe, there are 2 main airlines, one being Ryan Air. The flights leave out of Treviso (a little more than an hour south of Aviano), and they fly to Brussels, Barcelona, Frankfurt, and 2 airports in London. From London, you can go to dozens of other cities in Europe for really cheap. A one-way ticket can be as cheap as $.01 before taxes!
Tren Italia has cheap fares to all over Italy and Europe. For instance, a train ticket from Pordenone to Venice is 4,23 euro each way per person. You can also take trains to other cities for around 35 euro when they're having a sale on trips, and even as low as 15 euro!
Traveling by train is a nice way to travel if you like to see the countryside along the way. If you want to save money on hotels, take a night train to the next city which will save you tons of money and you wake up the next morning in a new city.
If you are under 26, bring in a passport size photo to the train station to apply for your young person discount card which will be mailed to you. You have to pay 30 euro for the card, but it is good as long as you are under 26, and saves you 50% off of all train fares. This is by far one of the best deals you can get on train discounts.
