Empty tables were waiting for guests. It was too early for having lunch. A cluster of good restaurants can be found in the old streets around the basilica. They serve good pizza, fish specialities, good wine and snacks, and more and more.

Icecream in Italy is "a must". Nowhere is as delicious as in Italy. And nothing better to do when strolling around in a hot day, is to visit an ice-cream shop and ... It would be a sin not to taste it, even you are on diet. My favourites are all fruit - tasting.

Today's sanctuary was rebuilt in 1924. When you enter the church, you see unusual stoup in red marble depicting the devil forced to cary holy water. This is a copy of the original stoup sculpted by the Franciscan Claudio Granzotto.

The name of the island refers to the abbot Barbano ho lived there (during 6th century) when the first miracle ascribed to Our Lady was happened. The tradition tells of a strong storm which endangered a population in the year 582 AD. At the end of the storm a wooden statue of Virgin Mary appeared on the island, and as a sign of gratitude for the end of the storm a sanctuary was built.

A route to the island Barbana is advisable for people who love nature. It's possible to spend a relaxing day among the lagoon canals and islands. The route starts at Mole Zaccaria in the centre of Grado, the boats are comfortable and suitable for people of every age.

The name of our island is Island of Barbana. Island with its church and monastery, and a chapel with graveyard around it, is a place of pilgrimage.
There are satisfying boat connections with the mainland.

In this little harbour, we went to the boat. a little bigger than these fishing boats and motor boats in my photo. Our schedule comprehended also a small beautiful, peacefull island, may be half an hour away from the mainland.

The pulpit is work of art, that attracts attention. Absolutely admirable. It is of similarly hybrid origins, perched on six slender Roman columns under a Venetian canopy that resembles an oriental tent.

The sixth-century church was heavily restored between the 1930s and 1950s. It preserves parade of ill-matched nave pillars topped by an assortment of Corinthian capitals. The mosaics pavement is beautiful, the pattern being formed by an endless knot.

It is worth to visit the historic part of the town, where an ancient excavations are exposed. We hadn't got enough time, to explore all historic inheritance. I think, centuries back, a place of burial was located there. Some very interesting mosaics can be seen there too.

The beach was so inviting that early May's day. It looked so relaxing, and you can see some visitors at the water resort. The water is warm and safe as a bath (but not in May, I think) If you want a locker, deckchair and shower facilities, you will have to pay a few euro. The free beaches are at the western end.

In the corner's side of one the squares in the town, this lovely little house is located. Nicely decorated with flowers planted into a flower boxes attracted my attention. This little house, seems like one from the fairy tale.
