From the church to Piazza de la Fontana, the pedestrian commercial street changes its name to Tolmezzo. The same pattern, the same look, the same activity that extends from Piazza de la Fontana to Viale centrale. It was a little far from our hotel, so, I only was forced to walk it once a day. Or twice...more
We were driving from Bologna to Slovenia, when I decided to stop in Lignano and ask in the hotel to keep our dancing costumes until our return to stay, three days later. It was planned to be a 5 minutes stop, to arrive not too late at Bohinj lake. When we arrived, Fernanda discovered that she had forgotten the plastic bag to protect the dress and it...more
All my stay in Lignano was lived around this pedestrian street, that makes part of the commercial axis of town. Stretching from Piazza Abbazia and the church, it was the closest to our hotel, and each day (three times a day, to be honest) Fernanda counted the shops and verified that they kept selling the same things, while I slowly walked in the...more
I tried to do a trip across the laguna to Grado, but couldn't do it. I thought that there were regular connections along the day, but I was wrong - there's a boat that makes one trip in the morning along the lagoon, and another one in the afternoon to Grado, And that's all. If you can't adapt to the scheduled trips, just forget it, and that's what...more
I think that I never read comments about a hotel with such unanimity - it was very good. Even in 5...more

We targeted this restaurant seeing the long line waiting at the entrance from 7:30 PM.We did not be disapointed and we were delighted by the food and by the price. We ate there several times during 7 stays (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012).Reservation is suggested. SeafoodMeat (veal)Real Italian Pizzamore
Entering this restaurant I expecting something... great! Most tables were reserved, and the restaurant looked nice. A promise.Well, I have nothing to complaint, it was a normal dinner, the prices for the food were normal, but the same didn't happen with the drinks - 3 € for a Sprite is discotheque price, and my wine cost the double of the usual. And...more
It was our first restaurant in Lignano, and we repeated. Nothing to say, the quality was good, maybe the prices a little bit higher than its equivalents. In Portugal, for may years, the restaurants used to charge "Couvert" that was supposed to cover the bread and something else eventually brought to the table without any order, but sometimes...more
Some sports events provide extra animation, and that could be a good chance for a different night in a calm city. The European Masters Games made two parties, one at the opening, in the beach and the final one at the sports centre. We were not present in the first one, but we heard that it was a great event, with thousands of people. The last one...more
There is not much to do and see at night in Lignano, so, the common night occupation is walking in the main commercial street, stopping for a drink in the many restaurants and bars. Near the church it is possible to listen to some music, performed by street artists. For a couple of nights there was a very good south american group.more
In 2012, we have changed our travel policy to reach Lignano. We take the plane early in morning to fly to Venice 1:40 and then we have reserved a taxi. There was some construction work on the highway so the journey lasted 2 hours with a driver who was not affraid by the passing prohibited signal nor the speed limit in order to not be blocked within...more
You can buy 1-day tickets to Venice which cost € 22,5 (2010 price) from ATVO. It includes bus from Lignano Sabbiadoro or Lignano Pineta to Punta Sabbioni (2 hours), and boat from Punta Sabbioni to Venice center (45 mins). This trip is non guided and is highly recommended. You leave Lignano at 7:30 and will be in Venice at 10:40. You have to leave...more
One of the main black point of the itinerary to reach Lignano from the West is the Venice toll Barrier. There are always long lines in Summer especially on Saturday afternoon when the tourists arrive to begin their vacation. The queue is announced some kilometers before by the radio or by the GPS.My tip is to go on the right line because near the...more
Vacation for Fernanda means... shopping (as a matter of fact everything means shopping for her...), and I tried to find a suitable program in Lignano. Well, it was not easy - it is a beach, and the local commerce reflects it. However, in all the ways to and from Lignano there was advertising of a great retail park in Palmanova. Can you imagine how...more
No, I didn't buy anything there (I didn't buy food out of restaurants, otherwise I would), but couldn't resist to stop and look, each time I passed in front of the shop - several times a day.I don't know what is the strongest reason to attract people - maybe the very large window, maybe the geometric organization of the displayed items, maybe the...more
Everywhere there are gelaterie which propose delicious ice creams and sorbets. You can choose :- a cone or a cup- a granita : fruit juice with crished ice- a frappe : ice cream mixed with milk- a mangia bevi (eat and drink) : a lot of ice cream scoops in a sirup. I never found the Chinotto outside Italy. It is a soda made with chemical products an especially, the quinine. Its flavor is bitter and surprising.I know my description does not promote the Chinotto but I suggest you try : it is very surprising and in any case better than the Root Beer. One brand of this beverage is owned by Coca Cola.During my last...more
July is the German month and August is the French one. Both months are of course also Italian. When a shopkeeper listens to my heavy accent, he answers me in German. But, in spite of 16 months in Germany as a soldier, I do not speak and understand German. So, I answer :Non capisco il Tedesco, ma provi l'Italiano. Va meglio.more
Parking in Lignano is not easy nor cheap - large forbidden extensions and the streets near the beach have parking meter, with short term control and high prices. Most hotels have reserved parking, and that must be a point to consider when booking. Our hotel - El Prater - had free parking a few meters distant from the hotel, in a fenced terrain,...more
The city is safe and the police is present everywhere. But there are some tourists who wait to be financed by the other tourists. So hide your purse and your valuables, even the basis things like towells and clothes. Close your windows and shutters when you leave.A safe in the room can be usefull. We got one during our last stay and we used it.more
Luggage and bags:
Avoid heavy luggages : often, the hotels and buildings have no elevator.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Shirts or T shirt are compulsory in the streets and you must be protected against sun.
If you forget your sun glasses, you will easily buy them at Lignano.
Bring also a beach towel (except if the hotel gives you one) because the sand can be very hot on the afternoon.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Moskito repellant (but you can buy it "alla farmacia")
You can forget the hairdryer. First because, there is one in the room or in the appartment. Second, because the air is dry and so the hair dryer is not really usefull.
Photo Equipment: Do not forget the UV lence (the days are sunny) and the flash (to shoot photographes when you stroll by the streets at night)
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Bathing suit with or without bra (in the North of Italy, there is no real concern).
If you wish to go to a free beach do not forget your umbrella and your tongs if you wish to put your feet on the sand.
If your hotel has a pool, the bathing cap can be compulsory. So, do not forget "la cuffia".
Miscellaneous: If you rent an appartment, bring a frying pan (they always forget to put one) and if you are French have bowls (Italians use cups).
If you want to put a pizza in your oven, bring the oven : it misses in all the appartments (may be, for the benefit of the surrounding restaurants)
A sun screen for the car even it is AC equiped
I read that Lignano Sabiaddoro is a beach that attracts using an extra argument - sports. With large and good sportive facilities, several sportive events of all kinds take place in town, giving life to it. As a matter of fact, I would never go to Lignano Sabbiadoro, if it wasn't... sports.European Masters Games was an event that gathered more than...more
Bathing here, so it looks to me, must be a high risk. The sea-water looks mudy and dirty, in fact, you cannot see the usual green or blue colour as elswhere on the sea-shore. What surprised me the most, I couldn't see the bottom even in the shallow. Since the bathing isn't recommendable, I suggest you other activities like boating, surfing or...more

What are the main features of Lignano beaches :- they are long and large- the sand is fine and yellow, rather clean- the beaches are equiped with deckchairs and sun umbrellas (see tariff 2012 on the last picture)- there is no tide and you can bath everytime- the depth of the water is very progressive and there is no current. The safety is maximum...more
The end of June isn't high season, yet the sea-water looks already mudy. In one of my prevoius visites to Lignano, by the middle of July, the water I saw was terrible dirty. I cannot even imagine to swimm in it! The beach was crowded with hundreds of thousands of tourists, most of them coming from the Northern Europe.Lignano Sabbiadoro isn't good...more
