It was a new and great experience to assist the traditional ceremony performed by Christians at 05:30 in the local Parish Church. After the Procession of Ressurrection, a bilingual (Slovenian and Italian) mass takes place and, at the end of the ceremony, bread and painted eggs, which were carried by parishioners, are blessed.
On Easter Eve wine and meat are also bring to the church to be blessed.

Steverjan is a small village, but as you can see from my restaurant tips it has several restaurants and "gostilne" (=trattorias) where you can eat good food and drink excellent Collio wines at fair prices. If you are looking for something more sophisticated, you can try the "Ristorante Castello Formentini" located in the old castle.
Don't miss to try the local specialities! Steverjans cuisine is characterized by a mixture of slovene, italian, austrian and even hungarian cuisine. Here you find "Mitteleuropa" in the plate!

If you love cycle racing, this is the right place for you. Here you can test your ability and strength as a cyclist: if you survive the steep slopes of Steverjan, you're really a good cyclist! (By the way: many national and international cycle racing competitions take place in Steverjan.).

Trattoria Dvor lies in San Floriano del Collio near Gorizia in Italy. The name Dvor means "court" in slovene because there was, a few time ago, the Castle of Baroni Tacco. Some of that is in ruines now but the heirs are renovating it. It's a beautiful place to visit because you can see the italian Collio and the slovene Brda famose for their vineyards.
Our dishes are fresh and based on local and traditional cuisine. There are three dining rooms in the restaurant and there are tables in the garden under old chestnut trees

Favorite Dish: My favourite dishes are pasticcio di zucchine (zucchini pie), melanzane al forno o parmigiana di melanzane (baked eggplant) and patate in tecia (potatoes cooked with onion). And at last the desserts: strudel di pere o di fichi (pear and fig strudel) and the gibanica (baked cake made with apples, cottage cheese and poppy seeds).
