Tarvisio Things to Do

  • pakistanibrain's Profile Photo

by pakistanibrain Written Jan 2, 2006

We went to Tarvisio for a day-trip. Had wonderful and tasty real Italian Pizza there, but unfortunately I can't remember the name of the restaurant.

Anyway I assume that all Pizzerias in Tarvisio should be good and give you good Pizza for a quite reasonable price.

  • Après ski ( after skiing )

After a day skiing........just put yourself in a nice chair outside while enjoying the sun.......with a nice hot chocolate with whipped cream. Some good hints instead of chocolate could be :jägerthee ( hot tea with rum)glühwein ( hot whine with cinnamon ) It's so good to sit outside in the nice sun with all the snow around you. :-))

  • Capuccino

.If you like coffee I must say you that the best coffee in Europe (in my opinion) you can find in Italy, especially capuccino but not only. Even in cheap bars by the road they can make it delicious - how do they do it? He? So stop driving, take a rest for a cup of cappucino, admire beatiful rocky Julian Alps and breath fresh mountain air..

The nightlife in Tarvisio is not really spectaculair if you're expecting big disco's and pubs.

But...there is the lighted skirun for skiing in the evening.
And some good restaurants and pizzeria.

    SHOPPING AREA

There are stores and stalls on both sides of the national road a few kilometers south of Tarvisio.
You can find here... everything: home & garden, souvenirs, tyres, food and much more.
It's not a luxury Christian Dior. And there is no McDonald's here (good hehe:-).

What to buy: Maybe you need such bells like on my picture? Too big? There are smaller ones as well (rather too for cows hehe).

What to pay: Hmm... I've never bought anything there. Maybe next time.

Tarvisio Warnings and Dangers

  • Buy some good snowtires !!

Maybe you don't expect it...but in the night can be a heavy snowfall....and you don't find your car anymore ! ;-)

  • Better do not drive a highway

.If you want to see anything do NOT drive the highway - btw you will miss Tarvisio when you do it. The alternative national road is free, broad and very good and first of all very scenic with many tunnels, bridges and so on. Highways in Northern Italy are toll and very comfortable. Probably they are most expensive and maybe the best - I mean in...

  • It is NOT warm/hot Italy

.Driving north from warm or hot Italian coasts be prepared to change climate hehe. Once I was driving from Rome (sunny weather with +25C = 77F) and there was foggy weather with only +5C (= 41F) in Tarvisio the same day (in late evening in September) - rather no T-shirts and shorts hehe. Fast changing clothes recommended before leaving a car hehe..

.Whenever you are in Tarvisio I recommend you to go (by a local bus or by a car - scenic road) up to mountain lakes: Laghi di Fisine. They have... green water hehe. And the region and the Julian Alps are beautiful. There are a few restaurants by the lakes.Follow the road to Slovenia and Fusine Laghi (name of a mountain village). Then on the road to...

ROAD No 13 IN JULIAN ALPS

    by matcrazy1 Written Feb 25, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Favorite thing: .
Tarvisio is located in Julian Alps which cover area of 2 bordering countries: most of them is in Slovenia (the highest summit Triglav 2864 m = 9396 ft), the rest in Italy.
Just look up and admire beautiful, rocky summits (if it's not foggy hehe) of the Julian Alps whenever you are in Tarvisio.
Or climb the mountains, there are many mountain trails and Tarvisio with numerous accommodations seems to be perfect base for mountain hikes.
Or go there for skiing - there are many ski lifts around.
Or drive up to unforgettable Laghi di Fusine (on this road there are road signs "traffic forbidden" with some inscriptions in Italian but all Italian cars... drove there, I just followed them hehe).
    .
