This isn't really a tourist trap but I couldn't find anywhere better to put it. Personally I didn't find Trieste to be very great for shopping and also at times we had a lot of difficulty finding places that were open. On many occasions we spotted what looked like a nice restaurant or bar, only to find it was closed.

At the far end of Piazza Unita d'Italia (away from the sea) is set the Fontana de Quattro Continente.

Or Fountain Of The Four Continents, built by Mazzoleni in 1750. There is a column bearing a bronze statue representing Charles IV, erected to commemorate the Emperor's visit to the town in 1728.

Just beyond the Piazza Unita d'Itlalia and to the left begins the "town centre" for all those wanting a bit of retail therapy !

Mess?

Traffic!!! Geez I hate Triete's (read: Italian) traffic. What a mess! People are driving just wherever they want to - they don't care about anything and anybody! And there are millions of little vespas which were driving me crazy. I'm not coming to Trieste by bike again. I can be happy I came home in one piece - I have no idea how come nobody hit me.

Although situated by the sea, Trieste has few suitable and accessible beaches. Come Summer, the situation is very much like that on the photo taken in nearby Sistiana (Sesljan in Slovenian). You are literally trapped among the bodies! No thanks...:(
