The name bora comes from Greek and Latin borea meaning "North" and refers a wind that blows all the year in Trieste and Istria/Istra. It can reach the speed of 150 or even 200 kms/h. We were driving around the city on a busy and rainy afternoon and we wanted to park and at least take a look around the main part of town. We parked on the waterfront and tried to find out how to pay for parking. Before we were even 20 paces from our car, we were accosted by the traffic policewoman and we were given a citation while trying to explain that we were trying to figure out how to pay. Unfortunately, she then screamed at us. Oh well, I suppose she was having a miserable day out in the cold rain. Leave a Comment

However, while landlords and shops staff are usually very polite and helpful, be aware of hectic and often rude waiters/waitresses while you are making breaks in the coffee shops with seating in the open air on Piazza del Unità, or dinning in the restaurants on Grand Canal or the seaside.
