The "bora" is very disturbing
All those who have spent at least some time in Trieste know what bora is.
The name bora comes from Greek and Latin borea meaning "North" and refers a wind that blows all the year in Trieste and Istria/Istra. It can reach the speed of 150 or even 200 kms/h. In autumn 2004 it blew at 240 kms/h in the Pag island (Croatian Istra). Therefore, look at the meteo forecast before coming to Trieste and get dressed accordingly.
Overzealous traffic police
We were driving around the city on a busy and rainy afternoon and we wanted to park and at least take a look around the main part of town. We parked on the waterfront and tried to find out how to pay for parking. Before we were even 20 paces from our car, we were accosted by the traffic policewoman and we were given a citation while trying to explain that we were trying to figure out how to pay. Unfortunately, she then screamed at us. Oh well, I suppose she was having a miserable day out in the cold rain.
A very icy cold wind blowen straight from Siberia........to the harbour and coastline of Trieste.
It's very difficult to walk in the wind and you have to protect yourself with a good jacket, because it's freeeeeezing !!!
The photo is made around the Christmasperiod 2006
Trieste is a big sprawling city
Although luckily I never had a problem here I was harased by what I call the looky looky man,They are genertaly from Africa and trying to sell you a watch or something and are very hard to get rid of.
First of all, Trieste is a beautiful town. It is ideal for both sightseeing and shopping.
However, while landlords and shops staff are usually very polite and helpful, be aware of hectic and often rude waiters/waitresses while you are making breaks in the coffee shops with seating in the open air on Piazza del Unità, or dinning in the restaurants on Grand Canal or the seaside.
