by diver-x In Venice, don't be shy of the tiny alley-ways and side-streets. We walked these paths until the wee hours of night and saw the most amazing little houses, shops & cafes. Also, stay in Lido - a small island across from Venice. You can ferry a car there for about $25 US and drive to one of the many hotels. Then walk or grab a bus to the ferry into Venice each day to see the sights.
Wandering the alleys in Venice at midnight in the dead of winter. In Rome, ordering 2 (delicious!) brick-oven pizzas with appetizer and a bottle of wine for under $30 US! Leave a Comment

by will2710 travel by train. I just had to make sure in case you had anything else in mind. First of all it is so cheap. You don't even really have to buy into any package. And you get exposed to so much beautiful countryside. Open the windows, smell the fragrance from the vineyards and let the gentle motion rock you to relaxation
trains, sharing wine with befriended locals in beautiful piazzas (I long for Perugia), and food Leave a Comment

by sandravdp As said I one time went to the north border with Austrtia and visited Pontebba one day. But generally I only went to the area of Tuscany (Toscane) in Italy. I still want to see some more of Italy e.g. Roma, Venezia, Napoli, Sardegna and Sicilia. I have put the places I have seen so far in alphabetic range for you in my must see tips. On the picture: the flag of Italy.
Viewing the beautiful landscape of Tuscany (Toscane). You can find more about it in my TRAVELLOGUE! Leave a Comment

by spetterke SIENA From this place there are also enough sites on VT. Go early if you want to enjoy this place. Then the CAMPO (central place)is yours and you can take some beautiful pics of this famous spot. TIP:take the covered parking of San Francesco at the north of the city. Here you take the automatic stairs up into the city.
Visit of course the CAMPO ,the PALAZZO PUBBLICO with the TORRE DEL MANGIA,the DUOMO.Try to be here in early July or August when they play the famous PALIO (horse-ridings) on the central CAMPO.(You need to book in advance for over a year.) Leave a Comment

by spetterke SMALL TOWNS OF CHIANTI Between Florence and Siena lies this famous wine region, with tiny villages, outstanding views,a lot of hike and bike possibilities.
GREVE Greve is a typical example of medieval urban planning. It was built around an ancient castle dating back to the 11th century and has an asymmetrical square typical of Tuscan marketplaces. MONTEFIORALLE It is situated on a hilltop facing the Greve valley, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and cypresses.Parts of the ancient walls are still visible, while the small streets are marked by old homes,a donjon, and several towers. With the fall of the Sienese Republic,Montefioralle lost its prior importance. PANZANO This village is situated in the very heart of Chianti. The castle still has its original tower dominating the surrounding landscape.Near the castle we admire the church of S. Maria Assunta, some ancient houses,a small squareand a picturesque arch. CASTELLINA Castellina is situaded on the ridge that divides the valleys of Elsa,Arbia and Pesa.It offers a splendid view.We can still admire tha medieval structure surrounded by the curtain walls. We advise you to visit the typical streets and particularly the Via delle Volte,an underground passage, which is an authentic piece of jewellery. RADDA It lies in the heart of Chianti,on a hill dividing the Arbia and Pesa valleys. The town became the seat of the Chianti League in 1415,whose vassals wore the Black Rooster insignia, today the trademark of the Chianti Classico Consortium. It was often scene of battles between Siena and Florence. VOLPAIA A small village on a hilltop north of Radda.Built in the twelfth century,as testified by the elliptical layout, tower and walls.A powerful donjon, numerous medieval buildings and a marvellous 15th century church, are situated near a small square, close to an old well. MONTERIGGIONI (see pic above)I advise you to visit this small town of a typical medieval origin and atmophere, surrounded by twelvth century curtain walls linked together by fourteen towers. It was built in 1203 as a stronghold against Florence.Inside the Borgo there are many shops of Chianti wine and typical stores.
