Rent scooters in Rome! It will give you more of a rush than any extreme sport out there. When you first see the traffic, and the driving style, it will shock you. Get on a scooter and blend right in to the well oiled machine that is Rome traffic! There are too many to think of just one.

by AgentJX

Get out of the big cities and see what Italy truly has to offer. Most of the big cities are great places and it would be easy to spend a great deal of time in them, but the small hill towns of Umbria and Toscany along with towns in the Alps should not be missed. There are so many things in Italy that are great. The people are friendly and outgoing, the food is great, the scenery is unbeatable and diverse, and the best way to see all that Italy has to offer is to take a train through the country.

See the mountains in northern Italy, like the Dolomites or just past Verona, Lake Garda Getting arrested by the Carabinieri after an altercation with club owners, and watching my buddy get beat down with nightsticks, it was a most humorous sight, he was crying like a little girl. Ohhh yes, I gave him hell for that one.

by SNICK

Take Alitalia into Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Venice. Rent a car, and drive into Vicenza via Padova. If you're not lucky enough to stay on post at Caserma Ederle (it's a military base), stay in a hotel and take in everything in Vicenza. Trips to Monte Berico when I was a child - I went back as an adult and the view of Vicenza from Monte Berico was totally unchanged. You can see the Teatro Olimpico and the train station from there.

Joanie_135's General Tip

by Joanie_135

Let me just begin by saying that Italians are incredibly warm, generous people who enjoy meeting foreigners. They are very family-oriented, and they love their 'Calcio' ('soccer') almost as much as they love debating politics. If you want to 'do as the Italians do,' go to a local cafe to watch a soccer match while sipping an espresso or take a stroll in a large piazza just to 'see and be seen'.As a tourist, you may find yourself in need of directions. You may be tempted to ask one of the distinguished-looking 'Carabinieri' (similar to police officers), but most Italians would advise against that. Although I've never had a bad experience of my own, Italians have several jokes in reference to their notorious simplicity. For example:'Why does a Carabiniere have a red stripe up the side of his pants? So he can find his pocket.''Why do the Carabinieri travel in pairs? Because one knows how...
