You can easily walk all the narrow streets of civita. Go straight eastward fron the village entrance, pass the church of the square, and walk this street, to... On your right, terraces facing the valley with wonderful ladscapes...
Go to the end, and you will find a narrow entrance to a little garden at the end of the village (on your left) with a little sort of museum in 2 small grottos, and a breathtaking view..
Of course, not every building is ffalling down. Some are just nice ancient bulding, and meny were restored in a very nice way not so long ago.
Every house has, however, a nice "medieval" and cozy taste....
Well, despite the picture here, not everything is falling here. The village is not totally diying...
Hey, would you imagine that not more than 100 meters from the "house of the olive tree" i took in the attached picture, there are a building where the Univesity of Washington state keeps architecture courses?
Well, that exactly what is true!
the first square you meet, on your right, has a bar, but also this building. Half of it seems in actual use, the other is gone with the rock itself.
The result of these contrasts is really amazing.....
Finally, you did! You are at the village door and the climbing is over.... Take your breath for a while, and take the first glance of the village center from the ancient gate.
Take a look at the amazing landscape you see from there, too.
Before entering the village, you can easily understand what happened to most of the houses, and to the whole hill that once connected the actual Civita to Bagnoregio itself..... The crumbly rock went down piece by piece, and many building with it
This is only an example
The only way you have to reach the hilltop and the village is... to walk.
there is only a narrow absolutely-no-cars bridge that crosses the valley and bring you there.
While the first part is easy, the last one is steep and harder.... but not long.
So, climb the road and reach the village gate, guarded by this building
Another 'preserved' steps, going into somebody's house !
Knock on the door & you might have a chat with somebody...if she or he would want to have a chat anyway....
If not, then wandering around some more !
In Civita de Bagnoregio, there are a phone booth, a bar, a restaurant, a toilet...even a laundry !
Where are all these things ? Do we take photos of these things when we travel ? Not me per se !
Well, then you guys have to come here & see what this place could offer each & everyone of you !
Well, as you are longer wandering around in this place, you would want to buy a place here right ?...Maybe a house ?
Well, no you can't !
Unless you are very very rich...all the houses are privately owned !
Another sight along St. Mary Street...
Notice the buildings or rather houses by the sides...& the steert itself which looks 'new'.
This makes up Civita de Bagnoregio that we could see today !
My work of trying to capture a bunch of flowers in Bagnoregio turns out to be blurry....
Well, nothing perfect when you are living this life but I'm showing my 'amateur' photography skills anyway...
Another stretch of St. Mary Street...
Small aligned houses still keeping their typical medieval aspects.
Probably being that way to preserved the village itself.
I have to mention here that the village doesn't look old but looks 'being preserved'...maybe to some of you, would look new like a small theme park, albeit being trapped in times !
Another stretch of street in Civita de Bagnoregio !
The only main street in this place is called St. Mary Street...
The streets in Civita...are narrow & completely excavated in tufa, dense with shadows & lights...
One of the many arches in Civita de Bagnoregio !
There were many famous people from that era, who have lived in this village on top of a hill...
So, there are poems, paintings, stories...all stemed from this heavenly place !
