    My sight !

Also, we could walk till the edge of the village (it's a very small village !) & seeing over the ruralness down below...
My feeling was indescribable anyway being in Civita de Bagnoregio...
Everything was so peaceful, serene....heaven-like for me !
Well, I just love this place so I can't really stop talking about 'civita' !

    Love these walls !

The walls of the buildings in Civita de Bagnoregio are fully intact & being preserved !
It was told that an American family also lives in this village to oversee the development of the village !

    Serene & sweet !

We are in Bagnoregio, Italy. A medieval town perched on top of a dying hill within a walking distance from Bagnoregio is called Civita de Bagnoregio...
Bagnoregio is situated in the north of Rome, near the town of Viterbo.
Okay, I captured another nice photo from 'civita'...

    Quiet....

95% of the houses are well-preserved but it's like a long lost abandoned museum ! A well-kept one...by people that we would never know exist ?
I did feel at one time that I wanted to knock on the door (this photo) but too scared to do so ! In case I was disturbing people making love or something...

Knock, knock ! Anybody there ?

    Another amazing sight !
I doubt that epople would think that this photo was taken somewhere in Italy, right ?
With nobody around to disturb me in capturing the sights, I felt that I was in a different world alltogether !
I was told later that there were people living in these houses but they were just not around, maybe in their houses, but doing what ?
That would add to the mystery of this place !

    Bushes & walls...

On some corners of the village, bushes creep in to show us the abandoness (is there such a word ?) of Civita de Bagnoregio...
I'm a sucker for this kind of sight...in fact, I took a thousand photos in & around this civita..
Well, make it a hundred photos.

    Trapped in time !

I wandered around the village feeling that it's my own village, under my own name !
Plants & flowers crawling up almost everywhere !
Walked on the streets & paths which used to be the hussle of this small village on the hill in rural Italy !

    Medieval walls ?

All photos are in chronological order, as I walked around this small village on a hill called Civita de Bagnoregio...
Pass the main gate, we would feel that we are coming to a village with no people !
    DARN TRUE !
Feeling like a thousand years back in times even.
Peace, tranquility...& amazing structures of buildings & sights...

    Pass This Entrance...

by coceng Updated Feb 12, 2004

    Entrance into the civita...

This is the main gate called Santa Maria Gate...
Restorations have been carried out to make this gate stand as we can see it today.
If you spend more times on this gate, you could see some primitive decorations during the Etruscan times...
Me, I didn't have the time, not that I was not interested !

    Pedestrian Bridge...

    Pedestrian Bridge...

To go high up on Civita de Bagnoregio, we have to cross this pedestrian bridge, sort of hanging like bridge from one hill to another...
This photo was taken by me as I turned my back while walking on the pedestrian bridge...
Notice the area below the bridge, like it's a parking area but almost no transports around...GREAT !
The great thing about coming here was no mass tourists to be seen by my own eyes !
Being here made me feel great about travelling, about coming to places where not many people would want to go or rather a place not yet being exposed to the public eyes...

    Almost reaching the top now...

Almost reaching the top, this civita looks more amazing to my eyes !
It does look medieval, isn't it ? Like coming to a place centuries ago when men still wearing skirts !
On the photo, we can see the tower & also the main gate into the village of Civita de Bagnoregio...

    Amazing Rural Scenery...

by coceng Updated Feb 12, 2004

    Rural Italy...

Amazing rural Italian sceneries are so stark around Civita de Bagnoregio !
Rolling hills surrounded the areas, making it one of my best sights venturing into the ruralness of Italy !
Excavations have been carried out to show that civita was the centre of civil, religious, social & economic life of the well organized Etrurian settlement...

    Perched on a hill...

    Civita de Bagnoregio...

In medieval therminology, 'civitas' mean the most ancient & the nucleus of a built up areas to separate it from the neibouring villages.
This area of Bagnoregio is still stuck in the primitve nucleus & the most renowed 'civita' is just the east of Bagnoregio, hence the name of Civita de Bagnoregio !
When I first saw this sight, I was WOW to myself ! So amazing, much much better that I could imagine from seeing some photos...only a handful of photos that I saw on the Net !
    Amazing & beautiful !
Let's go closer, shall we ?

Civita di Bagnoregio - ultimate Italian hill town

    by VA_Dave Written Dec 8, 2002
View of Civita from across bridge

    A truly magical place.

No cars - population 15 - built on a pinnacle in a canyon - connected to mainland by a suspension bridge.

When you go, say hi to Maria and Anna for me.

Thanks to the Rick Steve's guide for telling me about Civita:
