The Church was rebuilt after World War II and looks magnificent, the decorations are superb. It is worth allocating at least 15 minutes to walk through and enjoy this church, some people most likely could spend an hour or more.

During World War II the Abbey was the centre of a 4 month battle as it controlled the valley below and the road to Rome. During this period there were considerable loss of personel and outside the Abbey walls is the Polish Cemetery for those lost in the battle.
