The best pizza I've ever had !! No doubt !!
Pizza a forno a legna !
It's the good pizza alta ( the high bottom ), how the original Napoletan pizza should be.
Every morning from Battipaglia ( south of Napels ) arrives the fresh mozzarella di bufala ( buffel mozzarella-cheese ).
Everyone, who's in Castel Gandolfo and didn't try this pizza.........has lost a big occasion.
They also speak English quit well, 'cause next to this pizzeria is an American University ( I think they study Art ). The students often eat a pizza in this delicous pizzeria.
Closed on Wednesday.
Open from : 1800 till 24.00 the rest of the days.
From 19.30 the pizza can be served......but try first also their delicous antipasti.
Favorite Dish: Pizza Margherita con mozzarella di bufalla.
I loved this pizzeria although the hours were odd and often unreliable. Were they closed on mondays? It seemed like they were always renovating. The owners are incredible too. I met them on more than one occasion. The pizza is fantastic and the service is wonderful.
As the previous reviewer mentioned, it is located next to an American University, the University of Dallas's Rome Campus. It's quite the local hangout.
This is the best restaurant I have been to so far in 31 years of my life!
Not the typical restaurant, more like a country style restaurant, it has got 10 rooms with lake views on the top also owned by the family.
It's a restaurant that has been there since 1882, 4 generations have kept the restaurant going with regional and innovative plates! Downstairs the wine cellars, cut in volcanic rock, offer a wide selection of wines from all over italy. I liked it so much that I have decided to do my wedding reception there. The prices aren't over the top, the service is friendly and impeccable and everyone at the restuarant it is very accomodating!
It was such a good night accompanied by live jazz music, the atmosphere very warm.
A real culinary experience!
Favorite Dish: Favorite Dish: Risotto con guanciale, radicchio e canestrato
Castel Gandolfo's relaxed environment asks for a long capuccino and a good conversation! Search "Bar Sport" and sit outside on the tables in the middle of the street, and let the town embrace you while you taste what Italy does best: cappuccino (try to say "cappuccio", roman-style!) and cornetto (that is what the french call a "croissant").
The reason I love Bar Sport is because inside it's full of postcards that people send them after returning home from their trip! It makes it so "Wordly", know what I mean?
Look for a Lisboa-postcard, it might be mine!
There are 4 or 5 restaurants in Castel Gandolfo that overlook the lake. Who cares what the menu is - go during the day and enjoy the view!
Note that even in high season, there are likely to be only local people in the restaurants in the evening - that says a lot.
Favorite Dish: The view.
