Wot's on?

The other side of the mountain. The other side of Mount Orlando shows the Mediterranean in all of its glory, the split mountain entry and if you click on this picture you will see the outline in the mist of the start of the Ponza group of islands.

While checking this out I was wondering about doors..........did they have doors and what were they made of. Probably timber do you think? Maybe they didn't have doors in those days. Anyway it makes me wonder. I really miss the opportunities to see all of these ancient buildings and to wonder about how they lived in those times.

Walking around this area was actually pretty spooky and having promised myself that I would investigate every nook and cranny, wild horses wouldn't have dragged me in to some of the building here.......even with a torch and a bodyguard.

Visiting Gaeta

by unravelau

It was never unusual to hear the voice of an American, although the first time I did a double take living as I was with an Italian family. The Gulf of Gaeta is the most beautiful place and looking at this picture you wouldn't know that there was a naval base below would you?

Walking with some ancestors?

I would take you to Castel S Angelo AKA Hadrian's Mausoleum, where you could soak up its history and atmosphere, paintings, weapons of war then up onto the roof to get an almost 360 degree look at the rooftops of Rome, S Peters and a few bridges. If you are anything like me you would be rapt. Lazio is not just Rome, so that is what I miss most, ie. the fact that you can just about have it all in the one area. You can soak up the history, go to the opera, enjoy the night life and lights, visit heaps of churches and castles, have a beach resort holiday, walk through the mountains, study the flora and fauna.........really it has everything all in the one package. PS, it does snow on occasions too but I am not familiar with this aspect or whereabouts you might be able to ski.......probably north of Rome.
