How to get there
The only way to arrive here is by boat (or helicopter if you have one !!)...
From Anzio (40 km south of Rome):
ferry (June to Sept.) 10 euros - 3 hours.
hydrofoil (aliscafo) - 70 minutes
From Terracina (100 km south of Rome):
ferry - 10 euros - 2:30 hours
From Formia (140 km south of Rome):
hydrofoil (aliscafo) - 20 euros - 75 minutes
- Diving and Snorkeling
- Sailing and Boating
From Rome, we took a train south a ways to a little city along the coast. From there, we took a hydrofoil to Ponza. There isn't much to do on the hydrofoil, but the view of the mediterranean can be quite nice if you stand up on the deck.
Sailing is the best way
If you can sail and are with some friends, sailing is the most exciting way to spend some days or more in Ponza. If you can't sail, most charter companies have professional skippers for rent. Look for their addresses in the nearest cities and towns on the coast (Formia, Gaeta, Terracina, S. Felice Circeo, Nettuno, ...).
Sailing in Ponza is not diffucult, all you need is a boat and a good map (there are many rocks, but all well known and easy to find on the map).
If you can't sail or don't want to afford the expense you can rent a small engine boat when you are in Ponza. Very easy to drive, allow you to go in the most amazing places (Frontone, Cala Inferno, Natural Arch, Chiaia di Luna, Cala di Feola).
