sunset at Chiaia di Luna
andy-g Says:
If you are in Ponza Porto in the evening, go to see the Sunset at Chiaia di Luna, it's fantastic. To go there, just walk to the tunnel under the mountain and you'll be there in few minutes. Bring with you a light-source, the tunnel is very dark, you'll need it to go back...
The first beach you should go to - Chiaia di luna
rattay Says:
Chiaia di Luna is the large beach that is located in a little bay formed by a beautiful cliff. It is on the opposite side of the island from the city of Ponza and can be reached by walking through the very old, dark Roman tunnel. You can also follow the road up to the top of...
Cala Feola
janchan Says:
The natural pools of Cala Feola on the west coast of the island of Ponza. They used to be old roman pools for breeding fishes.
The "Cathedral" of Palmarola
janchan Says:
Palmarola is called the Pearl of Mediterranean Sea... and if you visit it... you can see this is not an exaggeration. The island is still quite wild, and just 30 minutes by boat from Ponza.Best Period to visit is June and September... when not too many tourists fill its...
Pilato's caves
janchan Says:
One of the most interesting Roman age works left on the island are these caves, used maybe as fish-growing pools. They are only reachable by boat.
the Roman tunnel
janchan Says:
Built 500 years before Christ, the tunnel is 500 mt. long and it leads from Ponza village to Chiaia di Luna, on the other side of the island.
Chiaia di Luna
janchan Says:
One of the most spectacular beaches of Ponza... with high cliffs all around... mmm... don't miss the sunset from here !!(expand the picture to see the whole extension of the beach)
Ponza town
janchan Says:
Very nice with all those white and pastel colors painted houses... mmm... a great atmosphere, especially out of the touristic season (July/August).

Small Luisa Hotel: Cosy and quaint
Blueming Says:
Unfortunately, only stayed here for 1 night as my girlfriend and I made a detour to the Island of Ponza on a spur of a moment. She looked at the map and asked me "want to go to Ponza?" and I replied...."yeah, why not?". So, we bought our ferry tickets and we set off for...
Un Posto al Sole: Apartment in Ponza
rattay Says:
When we got to Ponza, we got off the boat and walked a few steps to some agencies to find a place to stay (we arrived early and had planned to simply go home on the last boat if there was no where to stay the night). The guest house we got was a little more expensive than we...
No (youth) hostels - only hotels
Herb84 Says:
Unfortunately there are no hostels on Ponza, so if you are not willing to pay quite a lot of money to get a hotel, I recommend that you go to Ponza only on a one-day trip. For instance the ferries leave from Terracina and go to ponza in the morning and then it is possible to...
Not quite sure of the name: Best Crepes in Italy
In the main strip of Ponza, along the port boardwalk, are a number of restaurants and food vendors. I'm not sure of the name, but one is a sort of window that you walk up to and order a crepe. They make it right in front of you and you can have any number of fillings put in it (my favorite was chocolate and strawberries, but they had many more choices). So if you see a place to buy crepes when you're walking around at night, don't hesitate to get one!

not really night-time, pre-dinner I'd say
During summertime (usually July and August) at Frontone, a beach not far from the port, disco dancing and aperitives take place from before sunset to dinnertime. Come as you are style,(swimsuit and tshirt are well accepted) music and cocktails won't stop until dinner time. If you are young and are in Ponza, need to go there.
Dress Code: no requirements but to be someway dressed, usually bathsuit and t-shirt or sportswear

Sailing is the best way
andy-g Says:
If you can sail and are with some friends, sailing is the most exciting way to spend some days or more in Ponza. If you can't sail, most charter companies have professional skippers for rent. Look for their addresses in the nearest cities and towns on the coast (Formia,...
Hydrofoil
rattay Says:
From Rome, we took a train south a ways to a little city along the coast. From there, we took a hydrofoil to Ponza. There isn't much to do on the hydrofoil, but the view of the mediterranean can be quite nice if you stand up on the deck.
How to get there
janchan Says:
The only way to arrive here is by boat (or helicopter if you have one !!)...From Anzio (40 km south of Rome):ferry (June to Sept.) 10 euros - 3 hours.hydrofoil (aliscafo) - 70 minutesFrom Terracina (100 km south of Rome):ferry - 10 euros - 2:30 hoursFrom Formia (140 km south...
The usual beach stuff
Luggage and bags: A back pack is probably best so you can bring your stuff to the beach.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: A swimsuit or two, sandals, beach cover up, a pair of pants/skirt and a suitable shirt for nighttime dinner and walking around. Assuming you are there in the summer, you really shouldn't need to bring too much stuff. Maybe a light sweatshirt if you are the type that gets cold when it's 65 degrees (F) outside.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: you can buy sunblock when you get there, or bring your own. Mosquito repellant might be a good idea too. Maybe some aloe vera gel for sunburns and some chapstick.
Miscellaneous: A towel

The island is not that big - rent a scooter!
Helpfulness
rattay 86 reviews
Ponza was a great place to rent a scooter and putt around all day. We rented a little on-and-off-road scooter for a few hours. The island doesn't have many cars, it's small, all roads pretty much lead to the same places and the weather was nice, making it the perfect place to rent a scooter. We rode around the island about 4 times, making frequent stops to take in the views. It was also a good way to see the other city on the island, which did not seem as popular with the tourists as the city of Ponza. One warning: put on the sunblock or you will have a very bad farmer's tan when you are done joyriding!

Beware the mosquitos
rattay Says:
This was definitely NOT my most favorite thing about Ponza: One night, we slept with the windows open because it was rather warm. That was a big mistake. We woke up around 2 AM from the awful buzzing noise and found we had been eaten alive by mosquitos. We turned on the...
