Favorite thing: Column of Trajan Constructed in 113 AD. It commemorates two of Trajan's victories. The scenes that spiral upwards tell the stories of these campaigns. it is 131 ft tall and the ashes of Emperor Trajan were once stored in the base of the column.

Favorite thing: The Arch of Septimius Severus, dating back to 203 AD, marks the entrance to the ROMAN FORUM if you are approaching it from the direction of the Capitoline Hill.

Favorite thing: ARCH OF COSTANTINE

Is situated just in front of the Colosseum. The largest of the arches erected in Rome, on the route followed by triumphal processions of antiquity between the Caelian and the Palatine hills, is 21 meters high, almost 26 meters wide and more then 7 meters deep.
The arch was built in 315 AD by decree of the Senate and the Roman people to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Costantine’s ascent to the throne and his victory over Maxentius in the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312.
For decoration of the arch, a number of reliefs and scupltures from other monuments were employed.

Favorite thing: FORO ROMANO – ROMAN FORUM

The Roman Forum is situated on an area which was originally most inhospitable, swampy and unhealthy. Once the complex reclamation work was finished, the Roman Forum became a place for trade and barter. Numerous shops and a large market square were built. An area was also set apart for ceremonies; it was here that the magistrates were elected, the traditional religious holidays were ketp, and those charged with various crimes were judged by a court.
As time passed, the forum area was completely abandoned; the ruins of the ancient monuments were used by the population and in large part demolished. During the Middle Ages, it became a pasture for sheep and cattle (hence its name of “Campo Vaccino”.

Fondest memory: View of the Roman Forum with the Temple of Saturn, the Phoca’s Column and a portion of the Arch of Septimius Severus.

Favorite thing: Walk throughout the city. This was my second time in Rome and it is much safer now than before!

Fondest memory: Go to the Imperial Street where the forum is. It's absolutely sensational. The Coliseum is something to see, followed by a nice lunch at one of the nearby restaurants...

Favorite thing: walk thro'the forum. To think what great feet have walked there before you !
Nero's Golden House, which has recently just reopened after 25 years. and the Doria Pamphiji Palazzo, near piazza Veneto. Absolutely spellbinding and beautiful.

Fondest memory: Just strolling thro' the streets and encountering a surprise gallery, building or palazzo around the corner. The balmy evenings again just strolling and sitting outside at a pavement cafe, and the hospitality and friendliness of the staff.

Favorite thing: The first thing we headed for when we arrived in Rome was the Coloseo. Outside the entrance stands the Arch of Constantine. An imposing piece of work in its own right but dwarfed next to the shear size of the Colosseum.

Favorite thing: Here's a picture of the Arch of Constantine, which is a magnificient triple-arcaded triumphal arch and has a lot of history behind it.

It is also held in a well state of conservation, since it was constructed in 312!
