Alien: The Romans are Aliens

This nightclub looks like something out of the Alien movie........not the people, even though the italian men act like them........it is stil a sight to see. You can pretend you are on the mothership with all of these beautiful, scantly clad people dancing on stages made of light. Good luck getting a spot on this dance floor.....It is worth it just to see the club it self.

My friends Alun and Davina at the club

This place is one of those "slash" places. Part restaurant / bar / pub / club. Whatever you want to call it, it is a good time. This place was jam packed with a bunch of crazy Italians and tourists. Thats what my guidebook said, thats what it was. They have drink specials late into the night, which I found other clubs did not do. The snack food was not worrth writing home about. Give it a pass by eating before you go out.

Also, they will try and make you buy a "membership" pass for the year, for 5 Euro. If you aren't too big of a group, I am sure that you will be able to talk your way out of it like we did.

It is located in Trastevere, so its a bit of a hike out, but worth it in the end.

The Radio Londra Caf, Rome

A great place, plenty of locals "for Romans", usually quite cheap and/or alternative. There are also some very good but small theatres and cinemas and during summer it is a must for live concerts.

One of my favorite locals is the Radio Londra Café in Via Monte Testaccio, 65b... with live music and a good choice of drinks and food.

Dress Code: Extremely casual.. :)

Grotta Pinta Membership Card (you get to keep)

Nice blue and white interior, matched with the "antique" brickwork.

Nearly no Italians, because you have to be an international student to be allowed inside.

Live DJs everynight, Saturdays: Matt D.

Music: Rap, Hip-Hop, Reggae, R'N'B, occasionally also 60s/70s or Latin

Drinks cost about 5€, but there's hardly anything in them, so better go and have a drink before you go dancing.

Entrance fee: 10€ for a membership (which lasts for one year) or 10€ for entrance and a free drink. If you're planing to go there twice, I'd recommend the membership.

There are seperate toilets: the ladies has an additional room where you're able to discuss the guys... :-) or fix your makeup (big mirrors!)

Dress Code: None, most people who go here dress casual or a little rapper-influenced

Nag's Head: Expensive drinks, music, and models (on t.v.)

Ok, I'm including this more as a piece of possible interest rather than as a suggestion.
The Nag's Head is a bar/club off of Piazza Venezia. It is pricey at night - about eight euro at the door. You do get a "free" drink though. But all the drinks after that will cost eight euro - even beer :(
The music is popular schlock - nothing good, but people manage to dance to it anyway. There is also something like a projector that throws images on the wall of models walking down the catwalk.
Lots of people crowd into this place around 11:30. There are tables but you'd have to come before eight o'clock if you wanted to be sure to get one.
The bartenders can do tricks with the glasses, which is fun to watch, but wears thin after you pay your first eight euro for a little pink drink with some fruit in it (so I'm a cheapskate, ok!).
I did get one Italian (turns out he was a carabiniere) to buy me a beer. But then his friend wanted to get really close - no good.
Be careful if you're a girl - don't flirt at all unless you really want a lot of attention. Guys, well, I wish you lots of luck! Unless you're hitting on an American, you probably won't be successfull here (and you won't be able to get to the Americans because of the thick crowd of Italian men).

Dress Code: Depends on who and how much you want to impress.

Trinity College- Irish Pub in Rome
This is the only bar I went to in Rome, so I can't really compare it to any others. Friendly people, and as a young lady, I didn't have to buy any drinks, guys paid for all of them(That was really cool). The Guinness was good, make sure to try a shot called Grappa (I believe that's how it's spelled).

Dress Code: Casual, I wore a simple black dress, my friend wore pants and a shirt with a band logo.

Testaccio is one of the best places for music and dancing. There is literally a street that is full of just clubs with all kinds of different types of music, dancing, and other interests. Taxi is the best way to get there and all taxi drivers know Testaccio!
