One of my favourite things to do in Rome in the evening is to watch the sun set and then the city light up.
Many of the fabulous buildings are flood lit, really making them stand out and look even more beautiful than they do during the day.
Just take a wander around the centre of town - it is full of locals and tourists alike, enjoying the bars and restaurants and the vibe of Roma!

Since we visited in March, it got dark quite early. This way we could explore "Rome by Night" quite easily!
We walked the same areas as during the days and enjoyed the atmosphere with those sights illuminated.
Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Castel Sant'Angelo or the Vatican really do look wonderful days and nights!

Address: Piazza Campo de'Fiori (zona Centro)
Yes: nightlife in trastevere. Old narrow streets with beautiful light! you can also go during the day .... but it is not the same.
In Trastevere there are many small bars to have dinner and then just walk around.

The streets and landmarks light up at night. Italians tend to eat dinner late, usually at 9 o'clock. That is when the restaurants are filled with people. Just walk the streets of Rome at night, but do not go to areas where there are less people -- there may be danger.

We didn't really go to any nightlife spot in Rome, since we wanted to see all of Rome's antiquities etc. However a very good tip is to walk with your camera (and tripod) around the city and make wonderful night photo's of the citiy. Almost all the Ancient sights and other famous must sees are well lit and easy to photograph. We didn't do too much night sight seeing, but I did capture this shot of the Colosseum at night. Magnificients isn't it? I'm quite proud of this pic, which I took with my new digital camera!!

But in my opinion, visit the Trevi Fountain at night! It has much more character and romance when it's lit up!
Fight your way through the crowd and gawking locals and toss your a coin.....toss a few!

Well I guess we walked so much of Rome during the day that we didn't walk too much in the evenings! Most of our evenings we spent in the Trastevere area across the River Tiber. This is the most popular area to eat in Rome - so much choice - and the livliest at night.

Dress Code: Good bars, restuarants are very easy to find.Just walk along and find a place that looks full of local people.Avoid the main touristy areas and you will eat better.Bars are everywhere and all priced sensaibly. There are plenty of nice little plazas with good selections of bars etc. Here are some wines to try on your night out......
Colle Gaio..........rich fruity flavour, one of the best dry white frascatis.
Casal Pilozzo.........smooth easy drinking white wine from frascati producers and try and drink a young vintage.
Bigi ..... good producers of quality Orvieto........try the single vineyard Torricella.
Calcaia ......comes from Barberani and makes lovely Orvieto.....

As long as you're careful, it's relatively safe to walk around Rome at night. The most fun I had was going back to the same sights I went to in the morning and retracing my steps after dinner. The fountains and monuments were more beautiful when they were all lit up at night.
