Campo di Fiori: Americans, Australians, Italians

The first time I went here I had a great time because it was one of my first nights in Rome.
Really, Campo di Fiori is a place everyone must visit for a nice nighttime experience (see "must see tips" to hear about Campo di Fiori during daytime).
There are several bars, including Sloppy Sam's and The Drunken Ship. Last time I was there both of these bars had Australian bartenders! That gives you some idea of the flavor of this place. Usually there are a lot of American students there. But there are also Italians and people from all over. On warm nights, and even on cold nights, people spill out into the piazza with their plastic glasses of beer. Sometimes people bring their own bottle of wine and sit by the statue in the center of the piazza.
It's a lively place surrounded by nice streets and it could be a good place to start a pub crawl!

Dress Code: Very mixed - but "la bella figura" is very important in Italia so you might feel out of place if you're wearing raggedy jeans (unless they're designer ;)

If after your European travels, a little English would be music to your ears, head to Campo dei Fiori. We were followed by a couple drunk Italians as we left the piazza, but I think they were the only locals in the place. The bars surrounding the Campo host large groups of International tourists. We ended up drinking in Sloppy Sams with a girl from Spain and a guy from Boston. A fun scene if you want to kick back with fellow wanderers.

Fontana dei Fiumi

Since we have two small children the only thing we did at night was go to piazza navona and see the live entertainment.
There are several street performers and some live music every night. There are several cafes surrounding the piazza where you can order a drink, a meal, or dessert like Tartufo a rich chocolate ice-cream like dessert.

Piazza di Spagna area

Not properly a 'nightlife' spot, the Piazza di Spagna area is a good place to stroll around when dusk falls - but concepts of day and night can vary a lot throughout the year in Europe, and you want to stay away from this place in summer when it gets dark at 11pm. It's a place to have dinner or a gelato, shop, or just see the sites. The stairways (Scalinata di Spagna) are always filled with young people, and the international tourists are everywhere...

Piazza Navona by night

Depending on how much time you spend in Rome, you will either have a compact program to enable you see as much as you can and at the end of the day you will be a dead beat, or just tour a sight at ago which leaves you time to explore Rome for hours on end in the night. Any how you can always sit back and relish the romantic atmosphere on live music.

Maria's friends & Maria, before going to a pub

Ok, I was lucky enough to have a friend studying in Rome sooo..

Campo Dei Fiori: nice place with lots of bars and cafes. We started with 'The Drunken' Ship' (cool place) and then just went bar-crawling. Nice!

Ok, another cool thing: FIESTA, like an artificial city a bit further from the center, in Rome's southern part. Lots of dance floors, latin-american music (my favorite), dancing, cocktails, fruits, food, nice shows (especially the Brasilians) and... well, just go in case you gotta chance!

also... TRINITY COLLEGE - the Irish Pub: Oh, wow! Great DJ, thanks whoever he is.

Nightlife in Rome

After spending a whirlwind day trying to catch all the sights and shopping of Rome's popular tourist areas, it was a welcome relief to sit down and soak up the "Locals" scene in the Campo di Fiori area.

We spent the day shoulder-to-shoulder playing "shove the tourist" with everyone in the Piazza di Spagna. When we found the Campo di Fiori section, it had such an interesting character to it. Lovely trattorias surround the piazza and the beautiful Roman fountains add the Italian flair to it. Mix that in with the art graffiti paintings and young crowd mingling........and it's total ambience!

Good for hanging out, drinking, and people watching. There are a lot of bars, restaurants, and icecream places.
A statue of Giordano Bruno, a very severe-looking monk is in the center of the plaza. Its kind of interesting that this statue serves as a reminder that this is where they once burned heretics at the stake here. A little bit of irony considering some of the current happenings...

There are 100's of bars ,cafe's and restuarants in Rome. You can go night clubbing or have a seat at a cafe or restuarant.Dinner normally starts around nine.During the summer, dress lightly as it is very hot.The liveliest area are Trastevere, around Piazza Novana and Campo del Fiori. The trendiest night clubs are to be found in Testaccio and Piazza Vittoro.
There are also summer concerts, open air and they are held at Villa Pamphili and at Villa Giula-tel 06 322 65 71.

Dress Code: CASUAL TO SMART........................................There are also cinemas about and my favourite thing was to just sit with a glass of wine and people watch.Rome is spectacular in the evening, fountains aree lit up and Piazza`s are throbbing with people.Shops open from 9-1 and then 4-8pm.You can go on a night tour of the city which must be beautiful.

The Piazza Navona at night is a wonderful place, plenty of street entertainers, and in December it's full of Christmassy market stalls selling all sorts of tat at cheap prices. If you can't afford a proper night out, wandering around here is the best!
The beauty of the fountains, the warm colours of the old buildings, really funny street entertainers, plenty of cafes and bars to sit and drink a glass of wine and watch the world go by (being watched is what the Romans want, after all)

Dress Code: Casual, comfortable, what could be better
