When in Rome I always go to this place to enjoy a tasteful dinner, excellent cocktails and in the same place after midnight there is always a party going on! the service is very kind, entry is free. Trinity College is in the historical centre of Rome and is very easy to reach by public transport. It's frequented not only by tourists but also by locals. It's a favourite for italians and foreigners. Open every day till late at reasonable prices. I strongly reccomend it!

This is a local's spot, I bet me and my friend were the first tourists to go there. I went there a lot of times because my boyfriend loves their White Dog Stout, with which they also make the best tiramisu I ever ate! It was much better than the original.
They have a large variety of beers and whiskies, and they even had Porto and Madeira wines! For those who appreciate it, it's surely a good place to go (I go just for the tiramisu! ;-P) The food selection is not so good, they don't have a lot of choice.
The music was good but a bit too loud for me on the interior floor; but if the weather is good, they have a terrace (where the owner is planning to make a pool) with large wooden tables where you can have a more peaceful chat.

Coming out bar is on Via san Giovanni in Laterano along with a couple of other cafes. This road is like a smaller version of Old Compton street in London, on a nice evening the road is full with gay guys drinking and enjoying the night. Buy yourself a drink in Coming Out and then walk down the small road (it feels like your on a catwalk being checked out), then just hang around. Age range of guys about 18-30, l think older gay guys will look somewhat out of place here.
I also found the local guys to be very friendly and happy to chat if you instigate some communication (or a cute look) and yes l pulled on this street ;-)
The road is just behind the Colloseum and has a great view of the Colloseum at night.

I forgot the name but in a corner on the Piazza Giuditta in the Trastevere area there is a very good wine bar. There is room outside, but also inside it is very nice. The wine was delicious and they have a whole selection of excellent bruschetta's. And the two girls who held the bar open that night were very friendly.

On the first night we arrived late from the plane journey, and headed out for something to eat. We went to a small restaurant, filled with the locals (the tourists had been earlier) I sat in the corner surrounded by gabbling Italians, and a radio that kept playing Natalie Imbrulia but I still felt most welcome. The food was great (it was part pizzaria) and the restaurant was next to a Gelatera (Ice cream parlour) so if you wanted Ice Cream the waitress would go next door for you and get it. I enjoyed it so much I returned to the same place for the other 4 nights.
If you want to feel Italian go between 9:00 and 11:00 when the locals go and the streets are filled again. I was overwhelmed by the helpfullness of the waiters and waitresses. If you had finished your meal and they weren't doing anything they would just come over and talk to you in either English or Italian ( my Italian wore thin by the end of the holiday). It was great and very good value for money.
Dress Code: There is no dress code. Turn up as you want. The waiters and waitresses wore casual clothes so there is no reason why you can't.

Vineria Reggio is a great enoteca located directly on Campo di Fiori. They have a huge selection of wines by the bottle and offer around 30 different wines by the glass too.
If you drink your glass of wine inside at the bar you pay 1 Euro less by the glass than if your served outside. It's great to sit inside and watch people but its fantastic sitting outside in the evening overlooking the piazza.

The Nag's Head is a Scottish Pub located on via Quatro Novembre just two blocks East of the Piazza Venicia. It offers a respite for English speaking persons who want plain conversation, good beer, and a homey atmosphere. The Filpina waitresses all speak fluent English and Italian. It's was a wonderful interlude to almost every day while we were there. Everyone there was friendly and loved the baby, especially when he saw a Heineken bottle and said "Beer!"

A cool bar / dancing club where the scantily clad barmaids dance around poles on the bars and the JD and Coke is served over ice in a PINT glass!
Dress Code: Damn, with what the barmaids wear, you'll probably feel overdressed!

Open 9am-2:00am. Do an internet search to find out more about absinthe. It is illegal to sell absinthe in the U.S., which is what prompted us to want to try it. It is supposed to be stronger than merely alcohol and has hallucinogenic properties. I only had 1 shot and my sister had 2 shots of absinthe. We also had several other drinks that night. We didn't have any hallucinations, but it must have been strong because we don't remember many details of the night. But we do know that we had a good time!

Finnegans is an Irish owned bar in Rome. It feels like a typical Irish bar, with good Irish brew (Guinness is a given - although I am not a fan of the drink myself). It is a great bar to go to as it is not on the main streets of Rome (but is still in the historical centre) and therefore a lot of the people who come here are locals - well okay, a lot of them are Irish or from the UK, but they're not likely to be the same tourists who were checking out the Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps.
The atmosphere is great - sit at the bar and have a chat with the staff, play a game of pool (billiards) in the back room, sit outside, or sit at one of the booths/tables and just relax. When I went here it was because there was a 'friendly' football match on - Ireland v. Italy - Italy won 1-2. If you're looking to watch anything sports related to Ireland (Rugby, football, gaelic football, hurling) - they will, more than likely, be showing it here.
So, if you're in Rome, but for some reason feel the need for a good Irish pub - then this is your place.
