Do not forget to forget your umbrelas:)
We were carrying with us one and... no chance for a rain even in December when we have been there... This is Rome not Bergen...
Photo Equipment: A good camera !
Miscellaneous: Do not forget a good map. I was surprised to find everywhere maps for free but you can find marked on them only the most known places. If you really want to "touch" everything find a good one and do not forget to make a complete documentation before going there... at least on VT :)
Otherwise you will pass just few meters away from small treasures...
Miscellaneous: a city map! you absolutely want to take a rather precis city map along! For instance in Trastevere there are lots of curvy and winding vicolos (alleys), you will loose yourself if you don't have a good map of the area...
Take some VERY GOOD WALKING SHOES !!
To discover Rome The best way, you should go on foot.
Miscellaneous: A good detailed map of Rome.
( We planned in advance what we really wanted to see and this helped us a lot as we were only there for 3 days )
Sun glasses is a must. Comfy shoes, although I use high heels and can't change that... :)
Miscellaneous: Water for drinking, esp. in summer, as it's hot. OXYGEN. pollution is enormous, beauty demands sacrificies ;). a MAP, that you can get in the tourist information (it will have also Metro schemes).
No specific clothing is needed: when it's summer it's hot and when it's winter it's cold ... I'm a genius I know :-).
Apart from kidding you need a light pull only if you plan to go to the beach in the night cause it's usually moderately windy.
Miscellaneous: If you plan to drive in Rome pls get a detailed map, not simply a touristic one ! Do not rely at all on the ones that rent-a-car companies distribute: they can give you only a generic idea ... get a detailed map, it's definitely worthy of, you save time and sometimes you save yourself as well :-)
Mapeasy's Guide to Rome is a great thing to have in your kit during a stay in Rome. It is printed on waterproof and almost indestructible paper. It is detailed and accurate. There is a ton of information on it.
It is designed to be traveler friendly and easy to use.
It such a waste of time looking for a map in a place like Rome when it is so easy to buy one at your local bookstore. So make the most of your time in Rome and arrive ready to go.
I do not work for the company or benefit in any way from this post.
