Eating outdoors in the piazza costs a little more than inside but the people watching is wonderful along with the sights and sounds of the piazza. Many fine dishes are available and the wait staff waits until you signal them to order or pay the bill. Remember that you must call the wait staff as they do not like to disturb you while enjoying your food. They are not rude but respectful. Next door is their Mokarabia coffee bar and gelato parlor, so if the price is too steep at the ristorante then try the coffee bar.
Dessert is the main course here. Their signature dish, Tartufo, an ice cream decadent treat with a surprise, is not to be missed. Many people know the Restaurant called "Bolognese" located right on the Piazza del Popolo Square, but this is also very good and much less expensive and more quiet being smaller. Manager Marco Graziosi is top class, knowledgeble and patient. He speaks good english and will help choosing from the good(not huge) wine list.
Here you have to try any of their fresh, home-made egg pasta dishes(tortellini, tagliatelle, ravioli ....) and the famous "Bollito", several kind of meats boiled and served either with green souce or original fruit "mostarda". These are all recepies from Emilia Romagna Region(See Bologna). Also desserts are home made Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$31-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Via Angelo Brunetti 59Phone: ++39.06.3219019Directions: Just around the corner from Piazza del Popolo, not far from Spanish Steps(10 min.)

This last trip to Italy [October of 2006], we stayed in Ostia Lido (Roma) to be 10 minutes from the Rome Airport for an early morning flight. We stayed in the Airport Palace Hotel and walked around the general area near the hotel to find an inexpensive but good place to have a pizza on our last evening in Italy. Luckily, we found the Trattoria-Pizzeria "Al Panfilo", a family-owned place with outstanding food and good service. We chose this place because it was filled with locals and was brightly lighted and clean. We ordered both bianco [white] and rossa [red] wines in 1/4 liters. In addition, we also had acqua minerale without gas [1/2 liter]. We also each had a mixed salad that was quite large and delicious. (7.5 Euro for the two). We also had a plate of olives [2.00 Euro]. We shared a pizza of tomatoes and mushrooms that we both enjoyed a good deal [11.00 Euro]. The total bill was [27.50 Euro]. The service was really good, and our waitress was quite busy, but was able to handle all the work quite efficiently. All in all, it was a wonderful last meal for our 2006 trip to Italy.
Sorry, but I forgot to take my camera to the restaurant. So, our last meal was not photographed. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Via delle Aleutine, 96, 00121 Ostia Lido (Roma)Phone: 06 5697200

You can find it the San Lorenzo district behind the Termini station. It attracts despite the unacctractive surroundings more and more tourist. The quality is still good. About 10 yrs ago the restaurant became famous because of a one page long article in the Suddeutsche Algemene Zeiting. I read it and went there twice. Last time in 2002. Since a few years there is a terrace TOO. Its advisable tot reserve or to come early about 20.15 hrs.
Delicious pasta. They serve boar. I had a lamb stew with baked patatoes for 9 euro. reasonable wines. Everyting is imported by family members from the fertile hills east of Rome. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Piazza da Sannita

Ok, so it doesn't have a cute Mom and Pop atmosphere and the fluorescent lights are a little too bright, but I have to confess this is one of my favourite places to eat in Rome. The food is really good, the portions are huge, and you get to mix and match your pastas and sauces to make whatever combination you want. If you're looking for a spot for a romantic dinner this is probably not the place, but if you want no-nonsense, authentic Italian food at a very reasonable price, then give it a try. If you're not super-hungry then you might consider sharing one pasta dish between two people; they're really quite large.
Some of my favourite combos are: Orecchiette (little ear-shaped pasta) with pesto and tomato Spinach-ricotta-filled panzerotti with basil and tomato sauce Farfalle (bow-tie pasta) with puttanesca sauce Theme: ItalianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averagePhone: 06.69190472Directions: There are several around Rome (and in other Italian cities); probably the most convenient for the historic centre is the one on Via IV Novembre, 139 near Piazza Venezia.Website: http://www.pastarito.it/en/home/default.asp?lingua=en

A very small entrance leads to this pizzeria, no fancy attraction marks or signs. You just have to know here is a top restaurant - on almost all scales. This two storied pizzeria is really worth being given a chance.

It there is one restaurant I am really enthousiast about , and that counts for the three of us it was this one. It was on our last evening in Roma and we wanted to celebrate the great holiday we had together. We had seen enough tourist traps already and pitty for us , we tasted some too. So we decided to stay away from the famous squares and the big attractions... And that was a very good decision. The restaurant is 'chique' but has a very relaxed edge. The service was very professional and very very friendly. We chose to sit outside --- inside you could see the activity. Like the fish that was presented first and then prepared inside....
Each of us did make an excellent choise in appetizer. The baked vegetables were delicious and spiced very fine , I had a fantastic raw salmon dish , grilled for just a second with a very fine oil... hmmm For main dish I enjoyed the meat grilled in the oven with cheese and vegetables on it , served like a lasagne. On the other side the fresh calamares were a hit and... The desserts sounded fantastic as well... But a few got sold out. We enjoyed the simple housemade traditional deserts. Quality is a little more expensive , but you'll enjoy it so much more. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: about averageAddress: Via A. Doria 55a/bPhone: 06 39733208Directions: Metro Cipro (vatican musea) , it is a little walk from there. A few busses from the piazza cavour and piazza Venezia pass through this street... No excuses not to go folks.

Trastevere has many streets that weave in and out of the old section of Rome, but once you cross the bridge over to Trastevere the vibe is different. The working man's quarters has a lively street called Via Della Lungaretta and you can walk the length from the Ponte Cestio, that crosses over from the Isola Tiberina, to a short distance away from the Ponte Sisto, which brings you back close to Campo De' Fiori. Shopping and eating are the main attractions on the street, but a little over on Viale Trastevere off the Piazza Mastai sits "La Piazzetta" Ristorante-Braceria-Pizzeria on Via Cardinale Merry del Val. The outside tables are plentiful, the inside tables as well, and the food is typical Italian with a lot of pizza choices. Simple but rustic and warm, the decor makes one want to sit and sip a little vino and chew on a pizza, while talking shop with the chef who works behind the glass in front of a wood fireplace. Prices are not as high as in Rome center and the talk is free.
Pizza! Pizza! Pizza! This is the dish of the day, month, year and at "La Piazzetta" there are plenty of choices with a pizza for anyones taste. This is my boyfriend's favourite restaurant in Rome, and being him italian and someone who loves to eat well, it must tell something about the quality of this place. Plus, it's quite funny to see the waiters dressed as monks, the poor guys! : ) There are two or three rooms, so it's also a great idea if you're in a big group.
He ate a carbonara, which was the best I have ever tasted. I chose ravioli with a delicious sauce of spinach and salmon, it was absolutely fabulous! They have a wide variety of pasta, cooked in the traditional roman way, and also the starters were very good. We chose buffet starters - they give you a plate and you can fill it with all the delicious things that you will see at the entrance, on the left side.
