This place is by far my number one recommendation for a traveler to Rome, because it is so unbelievable that I just want everyone to try it. Maybe I am not fully accustomed to the concept of aperitivo, or aperitif, but the execution of this dreamy practice at Fluid just blew my mind. First of all, the bar is almost overly-stimulating visually. The walls are loads of small river rocks, held up by a large metal grid. The floor is, well, fluid, to stay true to the name of the place, and the tiles seem to ooze as you step on them. You can sit on regular chairs, or head to the room where giant light-up blocks resembling ice cubes provide a more stylish option. The entire back wall is running and spouting with lit green liquids that dance enchantingly as you enjoy your fare. The crowd is young and the mood is quiet in the early dinner hours, though with a very heavy musical presence. Head in at 6:30 when it starts. You'll want to get the best of what they're offering, and the plates will not remain untouched for long. A drink (Get the strawberry daquiri for a really huge, indulgent treat) and unlimited access to the delicious food buffet on the bar will set you back 7 euros. Couscous, pasta, all kinds of finger foods, even individual strawberry tarts can all be scooped up by the plate full, as many times as you want. But don't fill up too fast! As plates are emptied and replaced on the bar, the selection will change, and time after time I found myslef disappointed to be filled with pesto pasta when a delicious looking alfredo had just appeared. Don't expect the food to be hot, it's all pretty much cold, but surprisingly this does not detract from the taste or experience. And even if you doubt that a bar of finger food can fill you up (which I promise, it can), you can always go somewhere else for your main course. Just think how much you would pay at a restaraunt for this many appetizers and a huge drink. It's well worth the extra trip.
Everything!

Vegetable torta appetizer by Lacristina Osteria del Gallo (Gallo = Rooster) I tried the vegetable torta -- two slices of a layered vegetable loaf, held together with an egg binding of sorts. Topped with a fresh tomato sauce. Very pretty and quite tasty. The veal "saltimbocca" (this literally means "jump in the mouth") was delicious. Thin slices of veal with sage leaf and prosciutto in a lively lemon sauce. Great bread (lord, how I love Italian bread!) Still, a bit expensive for value received. I would have felt better if the bill had been about 6-8 Euros less than the 29E charged. Check out my tip on La Focaccia nearby which is more reasonably priced.

I'd read so many good reviews about L'archetto and all of them were spot on - we had a great meal here!! As others have mentioned, this little gem's specialty is spaghetti. Just spaghetti. With 100+ different sauces to choose from. The menu was in English (yes, I KNOW that's supposed to scream Tourist Trap but this is an exception) and prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality - no skimpy portions here. My pasta was perfectly al dente with just enough quattro formaggi sauce to coat the noodles vs swim in it. Heaven. 2 entrees and a couple half carafes of wine came to the bargain price (for Rome) about 35 euro with tip. Busy but friendly waitstaff and closed on Mondays. Very highly recommended. You can choose from indoor or outdoor seating. We chose the street, as it was such a nice night, and had some fun dinner conversation with a neighboring couple from Vietnam/China. It also had its interesting moments as a "street" in Italy can be the width of a Fiat so the occasional motorscooter or tiny little car went flying by within inches of your noodles.
Pick your favorite sauce and it'll be good. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Via dell'Archetto 26, 00187 RomaPhone: 39 06 67.89.064Directions: A block from Trevi Fountain

Update: Have Gina fix you an antipasto platter - wonderful! Big family run restaurant, quite casual, very kind and lovely waitress Gina who helped me immensely with my Italian pronunciations and received a large tip from us.
Wonderful sausage & onion pizza, steamed clams in broth over a heaping piece of bread, house wine is not the best, great rip apart rolls I think from Forno in Campo dei Fiori. Ristorante 'La Scaletta' in Trastevere by Paisleypaul There are I think 3 of these in a chain , none far from Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. There is a Menu Tursitico, costing Eu10 for lunch (pranzo) or Eu14 for colazione (dinner) I kind of call it that Tourist Menus can be surprisingly tasty and represent great value normally, but I only consider them for lunch, never for dinner
Our order and bill - aren't I thorough ! 2 bruschette zuppa di verdure ; penne alla casa cotelleto alla milanese ; insalata di pollo macedionia di frutte ; dolce della casa 1 Litre water and a 330ml Peroni totalled Eu28.50 Best of all - I BELIEVE this ristorante is entirely NO SMOKING ! Thought lighting up was compulsory in Italia ......! A small ristorante-pizzeria by Roman standards, but the waitstaff let you have the table till closing, if you want. The food is average for Rome, because the culinary skills of the top chefs in Rome make most of the smaller restaurants food seem common, but a good meal is still to be had here. It is the chance meeting or planned meeting of friends that warms the interior of Ciccia Bomba and a good meeting place for those planning to visit Piazza Navona but don't want to pay the high prices for a meal. My wife and I met fellow VTers Ciambella, a dynamite duo of Nathalie and Charles, for a little get together of merryment and cheer.
Sorry, but to be honest, after the first glass of wine at the restaurant, after wine at my B & B with fellow Vters Ciambella, I can't recall what I dined on. I have the receipt that says we all ate something, but I don't recall what dishes I ordered. lol. As for satisfied, must have been, because we were all laughing and enjoying each others company. That made it a great experience for both my wife and me. Thanks Nathalie and Charles, and "Tony" too,as well as Dennis the Dentist, the brother-in-law of Giampiero who owns the B&B Navona Gallery Suites, where my wife Sue and I stayed while in Rome. Ricotta and walnut salad/Insalate Contandina by ATLC, 3 more photos In between our visit to St. Peter and the Vatican museums, we had lunch here. It's part of a chain and offers great value, especially the salads. On the website (link below) you can find locations for the various restaurants about town.
I chose the Insalate Imperiale (€8,50) with crayfish, mushrooms, mixed salad and a pink sauce. It was delicious and that means a lot, coming from me, because I'm not a big salad fan. Of course you can also eat a good pizza and many other dishes. You can find it the San Lorenzo district behind the Termini station. It attracts despite the unacctractive surroundings more and more tourist. The quality is still good. About 10 yrs ago the restaurant became famous because of a one page long article in the Suddeutsche Algemene Zeiting. I read it and went there twice. Last time in 2002. Since a few years there is a terrace TOO. Its advisable tot reserve or to come early about 20.15 hrs.
Delicious pasta. They serve boar. I had a lamb stew with baked patatoes for 9 euro. reasonable wines. Everyting is imported by family members from the fertile hills east of Rome. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Piazza da Sannita

Pic by BerniShand by craic There may be better ice cream in Italy - but I don't want to actually die of pleasure! You can sit in the restaurant and get ice cream in a dish etc, but I think ice cream has to be in a cone. If you get a cone that is strictly take away. Line up at the cash desk to get a ticket. There is a sign for prices and sizes so that is easy. Take your ticket to the counter and choose up to three flavours and decide if you want cream on top - con panne. The only flavour I didn't like much was Zuppa Inglese - it tasted like custard. This ice cream isn't any more expensive than other inferior ice creams - so what is the point of buying an inferior ice cream? We had a coffee here once at the outside tables and that was very pleasant and the waiter was a doll. They give you a carafe of water without you having to ask for it.
