A Friday night in Campo Di Fiore, my favourite piazza in Rome, and we found ourselves eating at La Carbonara. This is a great restaurant although a little pricey but they do not have a cover charge. The food is very good and very abundant. The ambience is really great out on the patio, you really get the sense of Italy there. Musicians serenade the patio with their great music while you eat. It opens every night at 1930. It's about 40 euros pp with a litre of wine and a beer and no tip.
Favorite Dish: I had the tagliloni with porcini mushrooms which was very good and my wife raved about the spaghetti bolognese.

The food is traditional Roman cuisine cooked fresh. The restaurant has been in business for 100 years - a fact the owner is very proud of, and it is popular with celebrities who sign and write comments all over the walls. The menu's are in Italian, but don't worry if you don't speak it as the waiters can translate everything for you. The restaurant is very popular with the locals so booking ahead is recommended if you don't want to wait a long time, or risk not being able to eat there at all.
Favorite Dish: The Artichokes, Jewish style are great (fried in olive oil), as are the fired vegatables - a little like tempora. The spaghetti carbonara is very nice, I had that one night and another spaghetti dish with cheeses and tomatoes another. The menu is small and also includes some steak and chicken dishes. They do not do fish or seafood dishes. They have many wines, we found a great local cabernet sauvignon.

There are several places to eat on the Campo di Fiori, but this is probably the best known. Home of carbonara sauce, Ristorante La Carbonara is a lovely, old-fashioned Roman restaurant. Attentive but unobtrusive service, classic dishes, white tablecloths, and an outdoor dining area on the Campo.
Keep in mind that, like all Italian outdoor dining, patrons can (and do) smoke at the outdoor tables. I can't eat while smelling smoke, so we had to eat inside. The inside dining is elegant but not overly decorated, but another benefit is that the indoor tables are not as in demand, so you can get a table inside more easily.
Favorite Dish: My gnocchi with truffle sauce was excellent!

The food is really good for the lovers of real italian food. The space is cosy surrounded by written walls and bottles of wine.
Favorite Dish: Don´t miss the Pistachio pie, it's delicious!
