La Rinascente, Rome
La Rinascente is an upscale department store in Rome where you can find really good quality merchandises (clothes, perfume, jewelry, etc). The prices are not cheap, but the quality is good. The store is worth to stop by even if you do not buy anything, just to get an idea of what they sell in Rome in an upscale department store and what the prices are. I guess the cheapest pair of leather gloves I saw there was 75 Euros, so do not expect to find a bargain.
One thing that I was surprised to see was people with dogs in the store. I do not recall too many stores in USA or any country I have traveled so far where you can take your dog with you inside. I wish I could take my dog with me when going shopping in a department store :)
Men's and women's clothing, parfumerie, shoes, all on several floors.
(Conveniences are located on the top floor, which on one or two occasions was all we were really in for!)
Mon - Sat 0930 - 2200 ; Sunday 1030 - 2000
What to buy: Prices from the reasonable to the outrageous, good quality clothes but sometimes just a little conservative.....?
Ooops, you left your Clinique makeup bag at home. Maybe they lost your luggage and you need one of everything, including underwear. Maybe it's winter and you've lost your hat, scarf, or gloves. Maybe you just want to check out some prices before you buy that scarf from the street vendor.
La Rinascente can help. It's the only department store in the historical center. And its open almost all the time.
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday 10:30 to 8 p.m.
If you don't find what you want there, walk across the street to the new Galleria Colonna with dozens of shops.
What to buy: Women and men's clothing, underwear, perfume, makeup, purses and wallets, typical department store things.
What to pay: Moderate department store prices - not cheap, but not terribly expensive either.
