by betako3 One of the best sculptures I've seen was in this museum, worth every euro I spent. The display is great, the villa itself is a very handsome building too, and the immence park surrounding it gives you the impression that you somehow managed to escape the city. Cons: time in the museum is limited as I remember to 2 hours (am I correct?), you need to pre-book by phone, and the queue to get tickets and then the time you have to wait to get inside is quite too long (considering pre-booking). But otherwise it's a perfect place to chill out.

If you get tired of visiting museums, ruins and churches, and you want to catch some fresh air and relax for some hours, I suggest a visit to Villa Borghese. The entrance near Piazza del Popolo offers an amazing view of the square and the surrounding areas. There are a lot of things to do: you can rent a bike or a 'riccio' (a kind of bike for two people), a boat, go to the Zoo (called Bioparco), or just sit and relax in one of the benches, watching silly people like me and my boyfriend trying to ride a 'riccio'. If you do rent one, be sure it's a semi-automatic, because the normal one is just too hard to ride!!

Entrance to Villa Borghese by Rhondaj As you exit the Flaminia Metro stop, straight ahead is an entrance to Villa Borghese. Architect and archaelogist Luigi Canina built this new entrance to the Villa from Porta del Popolo in the 1800's. Leave a Comment Directions: You can't miss it after exiting the metro at the Flaminia stop.

by roamer61 Located in northwest Rome, this elegant villa dating to the 17th and 18th Centuries is home to one of the finest art collections anywhere. The first floor is devoted to sculpture, both classical and later. Masterworks by artists such as Bernini and Canova are on display. Most notably the spectacular Pauline Borghese by Canova. The upstairs is devoted to paintings and has masterpieces by such artist as Raphael, Carravagio and Ruebens. Bags and cameras must be checked and reservations are mandatory. A maximum of 2 hours is allotted for each entry. Though 45 minutes to an hour is enough for most. A cafe is on the premises also. The museum is located with the aptly named Borghese Gardens, named for the famous family bearing that name. There are wide lawns, walking paths and numerous benches. All making for an enjoyable and relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

inside the western entrance, Villa Borghese by mrclay2000 One of the greatest spots in Rome is the huge park north of the city called the Villa Borghese. Secretly flocked to by hordes of Italians, the grounds are frequently ignored by foreign visitors who divide their time among thousands of treasured spots elsewhere in the city. These spacious grounds host an important art museum, a zoo, several fountains, hundreds of sculpted images both ancient and modern, and otherwise provide a welcome break from city life, museum touring, and the congestion of Roman roads. If Rome is a city for lovers, those lovers often find their way here. Leave a Comment Directions: northern Rome with entrances just outside the city walls

Umberto I monument by mrclay2000 This continues the artwork section of the last tip. In the middle of the Villa Borghese where you lose yourself amid charming fountains and statuary, you'll find this noble commemoration of Umberto I, the Italian king of the 19th century. outside edge of Villa Borghese by mrclay2000 Touring the Villa Borghese will not only clear your mind of your overblown itinerary, but will rejuvenate you through a rustic setting just minutes away from the heart of Italy's busiest town. Some of my favorite sculptures anywhere in Europe were discovered during the few hours that I wandered through here. If actual museums better suit you, there is an important art gallery on the edge of the park. Otherwise, you need not look far to see some interesting works of European art with just the right touch of Italian flair. Leave a Comment

Villa Borghese by pili Near Piazza del Popolo, this villa is an oasis for tourists, because the squares in Rome haven´t got any trees, and in this villa is full of wonderful and ancient trees and plants. You should have a lunch sitting on a bench.

by Oana_bic Villa Borghese today in the heart of Rome, was the suburban residence of the Borghese family. Built in 1616 by the nephew of Paul V, the Cardinal Scipio Borghese, it was surrounded by large and varied gardens, which are still populated by eagles and dragons, the heraldic symbols of the family. The architect of the Casino was Jan Van Santen, a Dutchman known also as Giovanni Vasanzio. Leave a Comment

by paulapes Another must-see is the Borghese Gallery. If you have the chance to see it, it is wonderful. The sculptures and paintings are gorgeous--bellissimo! This is the exterior of the building, which had just re-opened about a month before our visit to Rome, after 14 years of restoration! It's just beautiful and you won't believe the sculptures, the marble looks as though it would 'give' if you touch it. Leave a Comment Directions: It's in the Borghese park, northeast of the Spanish Steps. An easy walk from there.
