It's not particularly cheap at 11 euros (though much cheaper than the UK equivalent), but the Leonardo Express is worth taking into the city if you land at Rome Fiumicino airport. It leaves every 30 minutes, and takes you straight through to Termini or the airport itself. Journey time is about 30 minutes. Its one drawback, for small people like me, is the height of the carriage from the platform. Not a problem in itself, but a real nuisance if you have to cope with a heavy-ish suitcase as well. There's not a massive amount of luggage space inside either, although reasonably-sized suitcases will go under the seats. There's aticket booth at the airport station, in front of the platform. At Termini there is also a little booth on the Leonardo Express platform (24, well-signed) but if the man isn't there you can easily get your tickets from the machine (in other photo). I think the convenience of this train probably outweighs the fact that it is double the fare of the 'normal' stopping train. Don't forget to validate your ticket using the yellow machines on the platforms before you get on the train. Leave a Comment

There are un-official taxi drivers hustling for your business as soon as you step out of the airport or train. I do not suggest using these drivers. Registered taxis generally do not go out to hustle business, and are available at the designated Taxi Stands around the city and at the airport. Look for the white cars with the 'Commune di Roma' sticker on the side. A taxi ride across Historic Rome should not cost anymore then 8 or 10. A taxi from the airport is usually between 40 and 50. There are frequent stories of official Commune di Roma Taxi's charging 25 for a ride from the Termini train station to a hotel located 3 blocks away. A good way to avoid this from happening is, when you get into the cab, simply look at the meter; it should read 2.33, or 3.36 if it is a Sunday or Festival Day. If the driver knows that you are reading the meter, usually honesty prevails. The driver must press a button on the meter when you arrive. Watch and make sure the button that he presses does not make the fare bump up. This is a common trick, and they will say it is a"tarif" charge. Simply refuse to pay it, or mention calling the police. The driver will quickly change his mind. It is standard for the driver to charge an extra 1 for each bag that he has to load into the trunk, and a 10% tip is expected. Also, an honest and affordable, flat rate airport shuttle service is available at: www.romashuttle.com. Theme: Car/Motor Home

Myself, Mayuki and geetha on the way to the Spagna by mallyak, 1 more photos The Metro and regional train lines are much more than a communal means of transport: they can also become a vehicle for "intelligent tourism". In Rome and Lazio, there are many lesser-known yet extremely interesting tourist attractions, which are easily accessible using the Metro or regional train services. Such sights are of great historical and cultural value and represent an undiscovered world of tourist destinations that are a mere ten minutes walk from Rome's various Metro stations.

If you do the sightseeing in a city of Rome leisurely, a good method will also use Buses. If you get B.I.G ticket or B.T.I ticket or C.I.S ticket, You can travel without worrying about time. It can investigate from the following site to Buss's routes, stops, and time. MY recommendation of rutes are H, 40,64 and 170, you will find the route appropriate for your destination. Since Buss travels the tourist resorts in a city of Rome slowly in many cases, if you can sit on a seat by the window, you can be immersed in the sightseeing feeling in a city of Rome. Pople who want to a fast trip, have the opening top bus which take up the sightseeing spots. This is another charge.Be careful. Theme: BusOther Contact: http://www.atac.roma.it/

we found them very clean by mapakettle Tickets for the subway are available at any tobacco shop, or within the subway itself. Large maps displayed prominently on entrance walls are easy to figure out, as long as you know where you are, and where you're going. If in doubt, ask a fellow traveller. We had trouble getting off at the correct stop. People don't automatically move aside like we are accustomed to in North America. I literally had to push my way through the other passengers to reach the exit. The word 'permisso', which you use instead of 'excuse me', had no effect. I used another couple of words that worked (with an increase in volume), but my wife has already taken me to task for those. Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

The Rome Metro by Paul2001 When I learned that Rome had a metro service I was hopeful that it would be very helpful. In fact it was not. Built more to commute bureaucrats and business people from their homes in the suburbs to their offices in the city centre, there are few places in Rome that the average tourist might be able to visit by way of the metro. Part of the problem with building a metro line in Rome is that everytime they extend a line they run into another important ruin, so rich is Rome in archeological importance. However the metro is quite affordable. It cost just .75 Euros for a ticket. They are sold at tabocco shops around the city. The metro operates for 5:30am to 11:30pm. Most of those who visit Rome via Ciampino airport know about the Schiaffini/Cotral buses (departing from Via Giolitti). While looking for where the buses leave from Termini, I found 2 other bus companies that offer transfer Termini-Ciampino and back: - Terravision: departs from Via Marsala and costs 8 (as of Dec 2008) one way. They recommend that you take a bus 3 hours before your flight leaves. - SIT Bus Shuttle: departs from Via Marsala, in front of the Automobile Club d'Italia and costs 6 (as of Dec 2008) one way. This is the company we chose because their timetable worked for us the best. We bought the tickets on the spot but you can buy them online too.

Coloseum by rstary It was impossible to get metro tickets from the machines at the station. We witnessed many others have an equally difficult time getting the machines to emit tickets. They must require exact change, which you will never have. Look for a tobacco or newspaper shop. They sell tickets. Once past this problem, the metro is really a great way to get around town.
