Central train Station of Roma is "stazione Termini".Fascist building, has got some shops inside and under,a big library,it's the only point in which the two metro lines meet themselves, and it's also the biggest bus station to go/come from anywhere in the capital, and to come from/go anywhere in Italy...

There’s a left luggage place at Termini Station – but the station is huge and it took me ages to find it. You have to go to the end of the station where Platform 24 is, then go down to the lower floor and follow the signs to the travelators.

Our Eurail Ticket...after a beating...

We took a train to Rome from Pisa using our Eurail ticket. The trip took about three hours and the train was fairly decent...

When we left Rome we went to Bern on an over night train using our Eurail ticket again...that trip took about 12 hours. We were too late to book a couchette so we had to sleep on seats all night...a little uncomfortable but we survived...

Most routes evolve around the trmini, romes central station. Everything i visited was within walking distance, even the Vatican, but if you do walk, be prepared to be very tired by the end of the day!

All trains eventually make it to Rome. When choosing between direct trains and regional trains the biggest factor is cost. Termini is enormous but also a great gateway to all of Europe. It's a strange feeling to stand at the ticket counter and know that you could arrive just about anywhere in Europe by the end of the day.

One of the best ways to get from the airport to the city is by train... it only cost a few dollars and you get to see some of the countryside.

You can get a all zone pass at the airport which is good on the city bus as well.

the train arriving at platform 26

But for just a few euros more I think the express is less hassle, especially when you have luggage with you and your hotel (as many are) is near Termini. Bear in mind that to walk to the exit of Termini station takes 10mins!! Its a huge station and the Leonardo Express platform is right at the end - good ideda to have a case with wheels!

Venice to Rome

I travelled from Venice to Rome by an overnight train on the purpose of saving money, which resulted to be an absolutely awful journey. The reason why I’m feeling so bad is not because of the train itself, the train itself is OK with well equipment, but the local passengers who were very cheeky and dangerous. At that night, some miserable passengers (most of them were tourists) had to stand for the whole night although they had valid tickets, because some shameless local guys occupied their seats. These guys did not even have valid tickets, but kept sitting in the chairs that they had not paid for. Heavily argument continued for the whole night but no tickets owners could get their seats back.

All these disgusting Italian passengers did make me sick. I’m quite sure that the majority Italian are gentle and polite, but I am not going to take Italian overnight train anyway.

A seat of a 8 seats compartment cost me about 30 GBP return, but I did have a seat there, a bit more fortunate than some other tourists. :-)

Getting to Rome we came in on...

Getting to Rome we came in on a highspeed train, my recomened travel choice when touring Europe. Upon leaving, we flew out (and headed home much to my chagrin). Both the Airport and the train terminal (Termini), are top rate and modern. The Termini has a mall in attached to it. My only real complaint is the chairs at the Airport are not very comfortable or condusive to sleeping. They're some of the worst I've found, actually.
The subway system, or Metro, while somewhat limited, is one of the best ways to get around. I was told that everytime they go to expand it they run into more archeological finds which prevent them from running new lines. We also took a taxi to the Airport, which was interesting because we prepaid due to the hour we took it and got there rather quickly. Romans as a rule drive completely insane. We also walked around quite a bit which gave us a true sense of the city. Of the three: walk as much as possible, take the Metro when going long distances and take a taxi only when absolutely necessary. Also avoid the buses due to pick pockets.

Stazione Termini is Romes main train station and the hub of the main transport system. But be warned,,do not linger and if u arrive late,,do not wait around long. There are usually taxis around,so catch one swifty. There are also buses here at most times that you can catch.
In summer months, expect the station to become very busy and long ques.
There are police here if u need to report anything and a lost luggage office too.
There is also a ticket office and a small money exchange booth. The foyer has a bookshop, telephones, post office, burger bar, cafe, ticket office etc.
