    Temple of Vesta

by elcbw Written Sep 9, 2004

On the cliff that dominates the valley of the Aniene Falls at Tivoli stand the ruins of a round temple dating from the late Republican period; it is called the Temple of Vesta or the Sibyl, but was probably consecrated to Hercules. This Corinthiian style building exerted great infouence over 19th century European monumental architeture.

The round Temple of Vesta lays on a very panoramic position above the valley of the Villa Gregoriana. This great location was the ancient acropolis and it provides an excellent view of the waterfalls and valley below.
