As nice as the cabbies are in Gaeta

by unravelau

Be aware that if you don't speak the language well and look like a tourist you are likely to attract the odd one who will offer you the world in tourist opportunities (i.e. sights) and charge you the earth. I knew where I wanted to go but had to call upon an English speaking driver to translate my destination to the next in line taxi. All that I wanted was to go somewhere, be dropped off and have someone come back and get me in a half an hour. Very obliging man who agreed to do as I requested. Once in the cab he wanted to take me all over the place for 50 ml (which I didn't have)............ Knowing how they love bartering didn't help me because of my lack of the lingo.............I did get to my destination and I did pay him all of my money excepting for enough for me to buy a sandwich and a drink for lunch...........and I survived, but it taught me a lesson. I was quite frightened by...
