Primula: You won't go hungry
So many restaurants and cafes - we were spoilt for choice. But we picked the Primula because it looked pretty and because we have a local cafe (in Bundanoon) called the Primula. It used to have very slow waitresses that we called the under water waitresses - because they moved so slowly.
Anyway this place was fine. We had a snack - a panino - it was huge, and tasty, cost about 4 euro. A birra and a Shirley Temple and due macchiati.
There are tables with cutlery and cloths and the other half is less formal - for snacks obviously. The coffee was good - the waiters swift and agreeable. The view was superb.
BUT - I have found there is usually a surprise whenever you go to a cafe in Italy. This surprise was when I asked for il conto the waiter just told me the cost. I asked again for il conto - one likes to check - but no. He gave me a swift glance at his pad where he had written the cost - and that was that. No il conto for us!
We reckoned 22 euro was about right so we paid up. And left a tip.
Favorite Dish: PS It has been suggested to me the reason for no bill being presented was because they might have been doing a fiddle - if it doesn't go through the till then it is not on the books and can't be taxed. But I do believe it is illegal for us as customers to leave the restaurant without an official receipt. We could have got fined.
Osteria delle 7 pance: Out of the big crowd
A bit away from the sea quay and the big crowd, hidden behind a street crner here is this lovely resaurat, with a covered terrasse that serves typical local cuisine mostly based on seafood.
Favorite Dish: Pesce San Pietro alla Ligure
if you don't have much time and you choose to picnic, sitting for on a small wall, like rose and I did (the pic in the intro shows the "local" where we had lunch ;-)...), in front of the small hourbour there is a bakery shop selling good cheese, vegetables, rice tarts.
and for a coffee you can sit at the Crema e Cioccolato, in piazza Colombo, near the small harbour.
We were disappointed as the price did not reflect the service - the only way in was via steps; we...more
