Why is Camogli Unspoiled

Camogli will always be off the beaten path unless they build a big ugly carpark as in Portofino. The village is on the mainline between Genoa and La Spezia and therefore accessible easily by train. By car, the visit is more difficult. Located between Recca and Rapallo - Santa Margherita, it is suspended from the SS!1 by two narrow twisting roads and has like no parking at all. We just drove past the gatehouse for the parking lot of the Cenobbio del Dogi Hotel, the best in town, like we belonged there but we were lucky. Other than that, we never saw an open parking space in town. But it is a worthwhile destination.

The Best Transportation Option in Camogli

Like many Ligurian coastal towns, Camogli is a little town on the hillside overlooking the ocean. There are a couple of trafficable streets but generally speaking in this area, having a car is little more than a hassle and the train is kind of scenic convenient and awfully nice. Leave the car and take the train. You're only other option is as shown.

Camogli - seen from the coast-road

You may of course take also the coast-road, and you will have a great view over the whole bay and the city of Camogli.

Here on my pic you may see the church on the left and the harbour with the lighttower on the right.

BUT: Parking of your car is not easy in Camogli with only narrow streets in the surrounding hills.

Camogli - the port

Just behind the church you will see the big port, where ships will leave for Portofino and other great places on the Ligurian coast.

And you may of course also go TO Camogli by a ship from Genua or from other ports.

Take the train !!

Camogli - the train-station

Take the train, it runs quite often and Camogli is one of the stations of the big train-connection from Genua to La Specia.

Simply check out for the trains, they run quite often in the morning and late afternoon, when plenty of people go to and come back from work.

But between 09.00 a.m. and 03.00 p.m. only a few trains will go.

If you want to go to San Fruttuoso, another nice spot on the Ligurian east coast, from Camogli leave the ferries run by the Società Golfo Paradiso.
