Camogli Things to Do

  • Stella Maris

The Stella Maris is a tradition that occurs in Camogli every year on the first Sunday of August. “The Dragun” is the protagonist in a wonderful procession of decorated boats and ships, that hopes to remind everyone of the continuing history of a population of sailors and their ties to the sea. Thousands of lit candles are floated out to the sea in...

  • A Real Fishing Village ( 2 photos)

The promenade de Garibaldi and the beach lie south of the imposing castle, with stores along the promenade as well as restaurants. But by walking north of the castle, you are in a functioning fishing village. Very few yachts here, all fishing boats. Men fixing nets, fish coming off the boats -- and directly into the several restaurants across the...

Camogli Restaurants

  • Zeffirino Kulum

On our first night in Camogli as we walked along the promenade - we decided to eat here because of the outside, sea side dining - the tall apartment buildings standing side by side, facing the sea.  My friend started with a carpaccio dish and I had grilled squid salad. My friend carpaccio was delicious - my grilled squid salad was fresh, simple,...

  • Porto Prego

The hotel had recommended this place our first night. This restaurant is located near the harbor on the west end of the promenade - there is seating outdoors - the decor is simple. For antipasti I had anchovies with lemon (10.00) and my friend had mussels (10.00).   Anchovies were in season and very fresh - very simply prepared, lemon and a drizzle...

  • You won't go hungry

So many restaurants and cafes - we were spoilt for choice. But we picked the Primula because it looked pretty and because we have a local cafe (in Bundanoon) called the Primula. It used to have very slow waitresses that we called the under water waitresses - because they moved so slowly.Anyway this place was fine. We had a snack - a panino - it was...

Camogli Transportation

  • Why is Camogli Unspoiled

Camogli will always be off the beaten path unless they build a big ugly carpark as in Portofino. The village is on the mainline between Genoa and La Spezia and therefore accessible easily by train. By car, the visit is more difficult. Located between Recca and Rapallo - Santa Margherita, it is suspended from the SS!1 by two narrow twisting roads...

Camogli Local Customs

  • Trompe l'oeil

Like most Ligurian fishing villages, the houses along the shore are painted in bright colors. But Camogli adds its own twist with trompe l'oeil painting of the houses as well. Sometimes it is difficult to separate the real from the faux. This particular wall is located on the walk to the promenade from the south end and the adjacent Cenobbio dei...

Camogli Tourist Traps

  • patriciazu's Profile Photo

by patriciazu Updated Nov 8, 2006

If you are tired after being on your feet all day visiting Madrid and you want to stop for a drink at the Plaza Major do ask for the drink card. If you don't they will bring you what they want together with tapas and you can get a bill of euro 90 just for a pre-dinner drink.

Unique Suggestions: Just ask for the drink card or the menu. My friend didn't ask for it and when I joined her at the table it was too late.

B&B Diving Center is very conveniently located, few metres from the sea and offers dives on many locations inside the protected area of the Portofino peninsula.

Equipment: You can hire full equipments there.

The best dive spots, IMHO are:
    Carega
    Isuela

Camogli Favorites

  • Because of VT ...

... some things aren't a surprise. I had seen a pic of these big cooking pans on Giampiero's page. So I even knew they are used for the festival each year when they cook huge amounts of fish.Or perhaps - were used - because they seem quite rusty and are a little eaten away around the rim.
