Chiara at the beach by Helga67 To me the beach was a little bit disappointing. The water was too cold for the time of the year and the beach looked a little bit dirty. Maybe this was because of the dark sand and the time of the year, as the beach was not cleaned frequently. I'm sure that it is very clean during high season. The public part of the beach was quite small too. It seems that part of the Chiavari beach is privately owned by hotels. Leave a Comment

Carruggiu by Helga67 In the centre of Chiavari you can find a carruggiu. This is a narrow long alley with porticoes (a covered walkway supported by regularly spaced columns). In Medieval times the fishing and commercial activities were carried out here when the sea reached into this area of town. Nowadays you will find all kinds of shops and eateries under the covered walkway. It's nice to walk here when you are coming from the seafront and heading for the historical centre. Piazza Matteotti by Helga67 At the end of the Corso Garibaldi lies this lovely square "Piazza Matteotti". In the middle you will find a statue of Garibaldi. Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-82) was the most famous hero of Italy. You will find his statue or name on many squares and streets around Italy. He was an Italian patriot and soldier who contributed to the achievement of Italian unification under the royal House of Savoy. On the right side lies the Chiesa di San Francesco and in the back you can see the public garden "Parco Villa Rocca". Leave a Comment Directions: In the centre

hmm, one of my dreams by globetrott I may highly recommend to stroll through the Marina of Chiavari, and all the other villages along the Ligurian coast. You will see a big number of unique sailing-yachts, like the Katamaran on my picture - big enough for my dream to sail around the world one day... Obviously the Marinas are open to all visitors, as nobody chased me away Leave a Comment Directions: You will not miss it, when walking down the boulevard along the coast

Boccadasse - east-end of Genova by globetrott Boccadasse was a small fishing-village once, but when Genova grew bigger and bigger, it was swallowed by the big city, BUT it kept a lot of its romantic atmosphere with tiny streets, romantic buildings and lots of fisherboats on the stoney beach. My rather large pic was partly cut by VT in the smaller size - Just click on the picture to see also the rest of it ! Boccadasse is also a great place to eat in luxury restaurants or rather simple take-away-restaurants offering seafood and even Farinata. Leave a Comment Directions: Take Bus Nr.31 or drive along the coaststreet with your own car to the eastern end of Corso Italia.

Genua / Genova by globetrott Genova / Genua is a Must of course and makes a great daytrip with the train from Chiavari ! Genua is the birthplace of C.Columbus and you may still see the house where he was born. There is a big aquarium directely at the port, opposite of a modern Pirate-ship built for the movie by Roman Polansky. Walk all the tiny , narrow streets of the old town, have a look into Palazzo Dukale and the Duomo, take the funicolare / cablecar to Righi or walk down via XX.Spt. - time will fly quickly and the day will be gone fast... Leave a Comment Directions: 3-4 Trains are leaving Chiavari each hour and the ride will mostly take about 55 minutes.Website: www.trenitalia.it

Bocadasse / Genua by globetrott It certainly makes sense to maybe rent a motorscooter or take the train and leave in small, unknown stations on your way to Genua and walk along the coastline. The coast looks really nice and plenty of rich people built their nobles homes and castles directely at the sea, like this one, I saw close to Bocadasse / Genua (in a distance of maybe 2o minutes by train from Chiavari) Leave a Comment Directions: This pic was taken in Bocadasse / Genua

by globetrott Lots of palmtrees grow in the public parks of Chiavari and on the promenade along the ozean-front. They are not the type that grow in large pots and have to be removed in winter, but the grow in the ground and stay there throughout the year. My pics were taken in early march, and while trees in Austria would have no leaves at all in march, it was nice to see these trees in Liguria already in full green. Leave a Comment Directions: This pic was taken at the ocean-promenade.

Portofino seen from the castle by globetrott Portofino is a rather expensive place to have lunch or dinner or to search for a hotelroom... ...BUT it makes a perfect place for a daytrip from Chiavari or any other place along the Ligurian coast. Ships and buses will leave at Santa Margherita Ligure and will take you within 30 minutes into the very centre of Portofino. You will have enough time to explore the town and even climb up the small hill to the castle, where I took my picture. For more infos and pics about Portofino - please click on the link below !! the main church in Santa Margherita Ligure by globetrott Santa Margherita Ligure is in a distance of just 2 or 3 stops on the train to Genova and it is the best place to go on a small cruise to Portofino and S.Frutuoso. While waiting for your ship or for the bus to Portofino, you really should take a look into the great church in the centre of Santa Margherita Ligure. Watch out for the rich decorations and ornaments, it is really worth it ! Leave a Comment Directions: This church is in the very centre of town, in a distance of maybe 200 meters from the pier , where the boats to Portofino will start.
