Chiavari is a train-station between Genua and 5terre and offers good connections to all important destinations for a tourist.

2)Portofino
3)Chiavari
4)Lavagna
5)Sestri Levante
6)the direction to 5terre
Have a look for special offers like e.g. there is a dayticket to 5terre, including all trains, buses and even the entrance-fee to the national park of 5terre (this is ONLY necessary to pay, when you walk between the 5 different villages!)

It is easy to get to Chiavari by car, BUT once you are there, you should rather look for a parking and do the rest by train or walking.
There are lots of parkings close to the trainstation, you simply have to search for them late at night, like I did.
This is the parking in Lavagna, where I had my motorhome for 3 days and slept inside every night without any kind of a problem.
During the day these parkings are hard to find empty, so it is always best to arrive late and search for a perfect place, that is even in the shade most of the day.

The best way of getting to Chiavari is by car or by train.
By car: Take highway A12 (Genoa - Livorno) and get off at exit "Lavagna". Follow the signs to Lavagna until you see signs to Chiavari. Chiavari lies next to Lavagna. There is a free parking place near the yacht harbour. Keep in mind that you have to pay on the highway. We paid 9.9 EUR from Pisa to Lavagna.
By train: Chiavari has a train station. The railway line runs along the whole coastline between Genoa and La Spezia (I think). Go to the website mentioned below to find out about timetables and costs.

if you have your own mean of transport, take the A12 motorway and if you are looking for a free parking: turn right at the roundabout down the motorway ramp, at the second traffic light turn left, reach the first traffic light on that street and turn right, soon after an underpass there is a roundabout with a sign pointing to the parking.
attention: I'm not sure about the exact height but too high van cannot park here...

Chiavari at the Ligurian Coast

C H I A V A R I is a medium-sized coastal town at the Ligurian coast, halfway between Cinque Terre and Genoa. I would have never known this place if it wasn't for VT and my VT friend Chiara (Pollon).
