The only true way to enjoy the Cinque Terre at its best is by foot. The Cinque Terre is criss-crossed by a mesh of footpaths. The routes are numerous. We chose the coastal route that links all five villages and takes about 5 hours. You don't have to walk the entire route. The train stops at each village allowing you to hop on and continue to the next town or go back to where you started.
There is a small fee of about $3 to go on the coastal trail known as "Villa dell'Amore"

Be sure to make the hike between the villages, otherwise you will surely miss some of the most gorgeous views of the sea as well as great shots of the villages. I love taking pictures... and I had way too much fun during the hikes. And it's a great chance to get some exercise during your Italian and/or European vacation. Just be careful if you're "running" through the trails... It can get crowded during daylight. If you choose to run on the trails, I would run very early in the morning so as to avoid other hikers, but be very very careful... it is very narrow and slippery at some points, and considering the 75 degree slope on the mountain side, it could turn your vacation into disaster. Have fun, and snap away with your camera during the hike.

This lovely small church of San Pietro is near the main square up the hill. Originally of Ligurian Gothic Style it dates back to the 14th century.
