Il Ghiottone: Incredible view from the hills

by lichinga Updated May 26, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Strictly local food from Liguria, not only fish, but foods from the mountains. Liguria is very narrow and the coast itself is often interrupted by cliffs. So, the hills are quite a distinctive world from the coast, and their food is very different.
They have a remarkable terrace with a wonderful overview of the coast and Finale itself.

Favorite Dish: Panizza - Chick-pea flour fritters, mixed with onions.
Farinata - Chick-pea flour pizza, well.... not exactly "pizza", of course, but similar in sight.

    Il Dattero: The best gelateria

    by yelyah99 Written Oct 4, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Finale is full of gelaterias but this is possibly the best one. Il Dattero has a reasonable selection of flavours, all of which are delicious. As good is the frozen yoghurt, in a huge cup - have yours with raspberries (lampone). For 2 euros, it's practically a meal in itself!

Favorite Dish: Frozen yoghurt with raspberries. Or possibly the Kinder ice cream.

Cafe Van Gogh: Van Gogh probably didn't come here

    by yelyah99 Written Oct 10, 2003

Cheap cocktails, nice smoothies and the usual selection of coffee products at this cafe(with comfy outdoor seating) in the middle of Finale.

Favorite Dish: The hot chocolate - it's not too, too thick but is deliciously decadent all the same.

Caffe Ferro: Delicious mini pastries in Finale

    by yelyah99 Written Oct 10, 2003

The best pasticceria in finale, heavenly mini pastries and great coffee. I think a cappuccino was something like 1.60 and a mini pastry 0.50 (you need more than 3 though!!) - but that's to sit down in the nice red interior or outside next to the church, so it's well worth it.

Favorite Dish: The mini coffee crema pastries - to die for.

Bar Topino: Salads and coffee in a decent enough cafe

    by yelyah99 Written Oct 10, 2003

They've called it a bar, but it wasn't exactly buzzing at night, so I'm calling it a coffeehouse! In reality, it's one of those mixed up places they have in Italy that do alcohol, food and coffee. The salads were quite nice (though not huge) - we had 2, costing 5 euros and 6 euros. I also had a cappuccino with cream (con panna) that was 2.30 to sit outside, and wasn't particularly good. This place didn't feel like great value for money, but would do for a quick snack.

    Favorite Dish: The feta salad
